I heard about this cafe that just opened from Google's recommendations. Came here Saturday 9am, and the place was filled with hipsters. The previous bbq place shut down and this new cafe sprung up in its place. The owner eschews the garage renovation idea an turned it into a cosy breakfast shop with bar.
When we got there we had a group of 5 ahead of us and there were no tables free and a 20 minute wait for a table, and the noise from the customers chatting was the first thing I noticed. We sat at the bar, which did not leave much room for elbows. Bar was made of a nice clean quality white marble, which beside the few scratches indicating it had been previously used, matched the rest of the clenliness of the place. the stools are quite comfortable but the legs are made of some metal that allows the seated to flex them worryingly.
The 2nd thing I notice are the Stacks of scones an cookies sitting deliciously under glass at the front register with some hand written captions. The whole place tries to capture the handcrafted essense, including the 2 unisex restrooms. Opening the marked door I am greeted with possibly Victorian themed furniture, I'm guessing procured from some outlet where it stood next to 10 other exact replicas, but everything was clean and had no odor.
Ordered the biscuits and gravy, and endless coffee. The correctly sized portions arrived quickly and we were able to enjoy our meal in enough peace to allow relaxing, when I was able to hear my wife.
I was hoping for a little more from the homemade biscuits, which were cold, an lacked any salty or buttery crust. The rest of it was excellent, including the endless coffee which was attended regularly by a bartendress (?) who was a point of fashion and attention piece and possible source of conversation for patrons. The attitude of all the workers were pleasant, despite the morning rush extra demands. Would reccomend to anyone within walking distance. Bill for 2 was...
Read moreMy wife and I recently moved to Northern Kentucky and were absolutely thrilled to discover The Baker's Table in Newport, Kentucky! From the moment we walked in, Rachel, Jake, and the entire staff made us feel incredibly welcome and right at home. It's fantastic to find such a wonderful farm-to-table restaurant in our new area.
We opted for the Chef's Tasting Menu with the Non-Alcoholic Drink pairing, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. Each dish was a unique work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. One of the mocktails, featuring Carrot and Chrysanthemum, was so refreshing and delicious we joked about wanting a whole pitcher to enjoy on our deck at home!
While every course was outstanding, the lamb ragu was a definite highlight. The flavors and textures were phenomenal, and the inclusion of what they called "lamb bacon" was truly one of the most delicious things I've tasted in a long time!
What we also appreciated was that despite the high quality of the dining experience, the atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious. Even the background music had songs that made us smile and added an easy-going vibe. The intimate setting made us feel connected rather than lost in a large, bustling space. The staff was attentive and genuinely responsive to our needs.
It's clear that The Baker's Table is a business that prioritizes sustainable practices and truly cares about the quality of their ingredients and the people they serve. We loved hearing the stories behind the beverages and the inspiration for each dish, and the fact that the menu changes monthly based on seasonal availability is something we greatly appreciate.
Our first experience at The Baker's Table was truly memorable, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. Highly, highly...
Read moreRidiculously good food. They pay attention to everything- ambiance, taste, friendliness. This place has it all. HIGHLY recommend!
My wife took me here for my birthday brunch. I love good food and good conversation. For the latter, my wife gets a 5 star review. For the food? Another 5 stars. I love this place!
It has all that I want in a restaurant. Open feel that is urban, open and very inviting. And yes, great food.
We were able to park (for free!) right our front on the street. Tip- go early! We hit it just before they were switching from the breakfast menu (served all day) to the lunch menu. Do we were able to choose both and avoid the rush.
The server found out it was my birthday from my wife and she generously brought out a stack of hot Italian ricotta doughnuts with strawberry-lemon curd to dip. My oh my! I typically do not start off a meal with sweets but...these were just incredible. Very light, airy and on the inside and just enough crisp and sugar on the outside.
Then we moved on to the fried chicken sandwich on buttermilk biscuit. My oh my... the combination of the chicken, biscuit with spicy slaw and honey was fantastic. A great mix of flavors- some mild heat, savory and sweet all working together for a great sandwich.
And the crispy potatoes with aioli! Just what you'd want- mouth watering good- crispy, tasty, yum.
For "dessert", we had the pumkin (yes that's how they spell it) French toast. It's made with delicious apple cider caramel and topped with a Chantilly cream. Like the rest of the breakfast, it's a taste bud haven.
This place has a great vibe, incredibly friendly hosts with food that is meticulously prepared. They said they were expanding their hours and I hope they do.
2 Yums...
