I’ve been looking forward to coming here for a few months now - just needed to build up the courage to try something new. This was my first impression of ALDI but I’ve heard how it works so I came armed with my quarter and bags.
Found everything easily. The store was clean. Absolutely incredible prices.
I go to checkout - 1 person in line behind me (most people were using self checkout). Knowing I need to bag my groceries after this is done, I ask Angelique (the woman who was at the register) to stop the conveyer belt so I can get all of my groceries out of the cart and in order for the way I need to bag them. She looked at me like I had just asked her to do a handstand or something equally as crazy and, all while not stopping the conveyer belt and watching me try to hold my groceries from going to her, asked me why - waited for my explanation - and proceeded to tell me all the reasons why she didn’t think I needed to. After all of that, she says “but I’ll stop it for you though”, stops it, and continues to huff and puff as I load my groceries on.
I walk to the end and position myself to bag the groceries (keep in mind, this is my first time at an ALDI) and in the same annoyed tone tells me I have to bag my groceries in the bagging area. Before I can even get my bags out of the cart, she starts throwing my groceries in as she scans them. No care taken to ensure my produce isn’t falling out of the containers they’re in. Not caring that other items are getting squashed. It almost feels like she’s doing this on purpose because of our previous interaction.
As someone with anxiety when it comes to trying new things, this was the worst possible outcome for me. The deals and cleanliness are outshone by the extremely rude worker and I will likely not come back. I’m not saying you have to be like Chick-fil-A or Trader Joe’s when it comes to customer service but at the very least, you should watch your tone and not speak to customers like they’re idiots. A simple “oh, you’re new around here” followed by an explanation of the checkout process would have sufficed.

Read moreThe Aldi experience is unusual to say the least. I have been in an Aldi in 7 different countries (Germany, USA, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Italy and Austria) during my life and I can say without hesitation, the Aldi 2998 in Newport, SC is by far, the worst. The majority of the staff here is oblivious to customer service. 12.23.23 - The slow guy operating the register has to be told to request an additional register to be opened when 13 carts are in line wrapped through the freezer section. Then, the staff does nothing to restrict the people walking up and breaking in line. I suppose they prefer the customers argue among themselves. The past 11 visits, I have left my items and walked out 7 of them. I then made my purchases elsewhere as a direct result of not having registers open. The sad part is, we were really excited when this new Aldi arrived. Soon we learned they have limited product selection & Aldi Find selections than the other 3 in a 20 mile radius, the shelves are not organized as nicely making it more difficult to find products, prices are missing, vegetable/fruit quality is questionable as we have purchased bad apples, pineapples, peppers, onions etc.. in addition to the registers being backed up regularly. Maybe you should focus on a proper management and staff training as it has only gotten...
Read moreAldi is just the best if you want excellent food at a great price. First, they have developed their own brands, they are just as good as the name brands at other stores because they copy them, even the labels. The store is easy to navigate, the shelves in the isles are only 5 feet high. They also have excellent produce, better than most of the chain stores. The reason you save money is you have to bring your own bags, and the shopping carts require a 25 cent refundable deposit so they don't have to hire parking lot workers. Try it! I know you will love it, especially the low fat preservative free brats and hotdogs. They hard to find elsewhere. I...
