Everything was excellent. Great food, excellent service and awesome coffee. i can't believe I have lived here for several years and that this is less then 3 miles from us and we have never been here.. crazy. Crazy good as everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
We started with a single cinnamon, powdered sugar pancake and it was amazing. He and I split it and everything about it was right. Add a touch of syrup combined with a the cinnamon and powdered sugar and that it was perfectly cooked and it was just so dang good!! The only problem is that is was very filling and I ordered a full breakfast. lol
I got the "special".. eggs, potatoes, bacon and toast ....the eggs were cooked exactly as I asked- and seasoned perfectly. The same with the potatoes and with the bacon they asked how I wanted it cooked. I love crispy bacon and I look forward to using the leftovers for a sandwich/BLT
Due to the pancake, I took more then half of the meal home and I am looking forward to it for later...
He got the vegetarian omelet and rye toast. He felt just as I did and everything was perfect! Exactly as he would have wanted.
Thankfully the coffee was really, really good as well... literally everything went smoothly...
I asked the cook on the way in what he suggested, and he was happy to answer.. our server was wonderful- as it turns out, both of them are part of the family that owns the restaurant. Really nice people and you can read their story on the menu :)
We took home a couple of cookies- a lemon blueberry one that is so good! It's a bit like a muffin but as a cookie. We both enjoyed this cookie... the chocolate chip one is for our kiddo but it looks really good!
There's clearly a good reason they have been around for 36 years"
Due to a move we have been eating out a bit more then typical for breakfast and this is by far, one of the more reasonably priced restaurants we have visited recently---for what you...
Read moreSecond time I’ve had Cincinnati chili…and the first time I’ve had it for breakfast!
I’m originally from Texas, where we have a specific definition for chili, but one needs to be able to appreciate Cincinnati chili as a separate and unique dish. And Gourmet Chili does it well! The cinnamon comes through in their meat sauce, and their cheese is as finely grated as Skyline’s.
The medium-sized five-way (they have three sizes) was $8.85, which is a great price in this economy. (Not more than Skyline’s price for the five-way pre-COVID and pre-inflation.) The cup of coffee with continuous refills was $2.50. Cash only, so make sure you have bills with you. (They do also have an ATM right inside the front door.)
The owner and staff at Gourmet Chili were friendly and warmly welcoming to this out-of-town visitor from Pittsburgh, so five stars for service. And they were speaking Greek to one another…so you know it’s legit!
Did I mention the great hours? On a Sunday morning at 8:30 AM, when just about all of the other chili parlors in town are closed, it was nice to be able to visit Gourmet Chili and enjoy a cup of coffee with my five-way. Five...
Read moreGourmet Chili has been staring me in the face every time I drive down Monmouth St. It has the disservice of being too close to Dixie Chili, but I decided that it needed a fair shake. After all, it's gourmet. I stopped in for carry-out, and I needed to give their chili a try. I went with plain chili with some cheese...
People... hear me out. Maybe we've been doing this wrong. We have these ideas in our heads of what the good chili places should be. Skyline, Camp Washington, Dixie, etc.
I'm here to tell you that Gourmet Chili lives up to its name. The chili itself was excellent! It was very meaty, with enough flavor and spice to tease the senses, but not overwhelm. I didn't get the flood of onion flavor that's so pervasive with Gold Star or Dixie. This is now my favorite chili, on par with Camp Washington. I'll definitely be back, and will try some of the other dishes that others...
