I had to go to Newton center as one of my doctor's nearby. I've been to Newton only a few times and I liked the atmosphere there. After my appointment, I decided to go exploring. I picked Langly Road. I stopped at Johnny's Luncheonette. I went in and the waitress directed me to a table. For my lunch, I chose breakfast food, my favorite. Don't judge me, but I ordered the 18 wheeler. I didn't think much about that because at another place, I get the the Tri-state. So I'm not exactly svelt! I knew I could diet the next day, right? Well, let me tell you the plate was huge! I knew I'd end up taking a lot of it home, ya, right. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, cooked the way I liked it, and home fries. It was delicious, let me tell you. Of course I had to look at the dessert menu. I ordered a hot fudge sundae; I wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere made me feel as though I were back in time and I loved that. The service was spectacular. The waitress was so attentive, I couldn't believe it. She had a huge smile on her face, and came to my table a number of times. You could tell she was very genuine, not phoney to get a big tip. She was one of the best waitresses I've ever known. She was the real deal. So that's it. I'll go back for sure. I really enjoyed my time in Newton; I'm looking forward to...
Read moreStopped in for what I hoped would be a quick lunch.
They seem be going for the All day breakfast classic American diner. Which they sort of pull off except for how cramped and claustrophobic it is.
The Menu is pretty bog standard silver diner.
They seem to be doing a roaring to go business, which would explain the 6-7 people working their kitchen, but the 4-5 servers working the front of house didn't translate into any kind of actual service.
I got the fish and chips. It's a pretty safe bet usually.
It was like somebody cut a McDonald's fish sandwich in half and put it on my plate. After they over cooked it. I could have skipped that fish across a lake like a stone. I will say the fries were ok.
What really amazed me was, I watched a plate of food get put onto the pass. Under the hot lights, ready to go. I thought it might be mine, but after 5 minutes I thought "must be part of a larger order for another table." After another 5 minutes it was noticed and brought to me. Should have got it my myself.
I think this place wants to be to-go only. I don't think they want people eating in. At least that's the vibe.
This place isn't a hole in the wall. It's just a...
Read moreForgot item we ordered. They were going to charge us for it until I noticed it never came(maybe new staff, not a huge deal). Food was OK, nothing special, coffee was a 1/2 step up from bickfords. Meager bacon portion for an "18 wheeler"(2 small pieces). The pancakes were dry and flavorless which is sad because they're so easy, add a small amount of water to the mixture, when they cook it will steam up and make them fluffy. My eggs were done right but it didn't say they were free range eggs. The home fries were good but basic(I like when there's some peppers in there). I enjoyed the atmosphere but service and food were not up to par, maybe hit or miss, maybe I'm used to better places like the friendly toast or making breakfast myself. For these prices I'd go elsewhere because the quality of food was not there and it had no love or flavor. If you're going to do breakfast food it has to be great. I hope you take this criticism as constructive, I'm not trying to be rude I just want to see you prosper and improve so you can pass down your legacy to coming...
