I love the food at the Skrimp Shack and eat there often. We ate there just yesterday. Now I don't know if it was because the boss wasn't there, but my husband and I ordered grilled catfish nuggets and what we got was grilled catfish crumbles, and not much at that. Usually it's a generous portion of good size nuggets. The other thing that bothers me, when I've ordered either of the chowders, their portioning is way off. They sell 2 sizes: a cup or a bowl. Twice I have ordered a cup of chowder (once eat in and once take out) and both times I have received a lot less than a cup (About 3/4 of a cup or less. Yes, the take out order, I actually measured and it was a tad less than 3/4 of a cup!). If I order a cup or a bowl, then I expect a full cup or bowl (a bowl is a 2 cup portion). Those two things are really my only complaints along with the sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are cut shoe string size; when they're fried they are like those shoe string fries you use to get in a can many years ago. Only these are hard and don't have much flavor. Now, all that aside, the food at the Skrimp Shack is deliciously prepared. There are many choices of seafood to choose from and you have the option of grilled or fried. The grilled is seasoned nicely and the fried is not greasy or in a heavy batter (fried to perfection). All the sides are wonderfully prepared. The collards are the best I've ever had, while my husband loves their fried okra. From seafood, sides, and desserts, everything seems to be good quality and fresh. In addition, the food is affordably priced, and the portions are generous (with the exception of the chowders). I have not tried the desserts yet! People that I have spoken with and have had the desserts, say they are really good! The service is good and generally fast; short wait times. They do get heavy lunch crowds at times. That doesn't seem to slow them down at all on getting orders out to the tables; their orders are out promptly! In the numerous times that I've been there, I've never had to wait long for my food (even during the lunch rush). During the lunch rush, sometimes seating may be limited. Although, I've never had a problem getting a seat, so far. The atmosphere is very casual and family friendly. Restrooms are large and usually very clean (1 male restroom and 1 female restroom). It would be REALLY NICE if they had a changing table and hooks in the restrooms to hang your coat or purse since there isn't any counter to set your belongings on. I would love to give the Skrimp Shack 5 stars, but until the improvements are made on the portioning of the chowders;the sweet potato fries are cut thicker; and hooks/changing table or counter space added -- It's a 4 Star for now. This won't stop me from eating there (because the food is outstanding), only from ordering any chowders or sweet potato fries. 🙂 I hope you try it out...
Read moreVisited the Skrimp Shack for the 1st time on 7-4-25. My family and I decided to give it a try and are so glad that we did. There were plenty of options to select from, and the store's staff were all very pleasant. Even when asking for to go boxes, the front counter was helpful and even asked if we needed small or larger boxes. (Many places will often just make the choice and give you a small box). I wouldn't consider myself a food vlogger, but I never miss a chance to leave feedback, whether good or bad. We were greeted upon entering the establishment. There were lots of customers of varying walks of life placing or picking up orders. Based on this, it led me to believe that everyone enjoyed this place. I believe we were assisted by a manager or shift leader (Joseph C) who was very useful in helping us decide on what to select. The customer service was top tier. I didn't feel rushed when placing our order, even though it was peak time. Joseph was patient while explaining the menu and even offered an alternative meal to me. Our food was served in a timely manner and was hot and delicious. We pleasantly enjoyed our rations, the prices were affordable, and the portions were overly sufficient. We even had leftovers, so I took it to my son, who is stationed here in Norfolk. He enjoyed it as well and said that he would start coming here. He will undoubtedly inform his shipmates about this place, so you've gained many new customers in one visit. All in all, we will be back again. Thanks for taking care of my family and me. May you have long success and many visitors. Keep doing what you're doing. It's working. Ps, the restrooms were clean and smelled...
Read moreHad the Shrimp and Whiting with the green beans for lunch 1120AM 5/9/19. Nice little shop, looked neat and clean. I would say the food was good, definitely better then any big chain's like Capt' D's or Long John Silvers. I guess I just didn't get anything special about the food. Pretty standard seasoning and sauces. The green beans were slightly on the bland side which was fine because I just added a lil salt and pepper, still pretty standard though nothing special. Overall decent, definitely far from bad. Service however was a bit on the rude side. I approached the woman at the register when it was my turn, she looked at me and I said "Hi I'm here for an online order" she looked me dead in the eye, said "yes", and just kinda stared at me. I was kind of confused thinking maybe she didn't hear me so I repeated myself. She then printed out a receipt and handed it to me then bagged the food. I asked for an extra packet of Tartar sauce and again, looked me straight in the face and rolled her eyes in a fairly exaggerated way. I chuckled in disbelief, and kinda looked around to see if anyone else saw her behavior but there weren't many people in there. Not sure what her deal was but you shouldn't have an attitude like that with your customers. Still, like I said. The food was decent, but you guys gotta get your personnel squared away. Not sure I'll be back there because of the service but, decent food at a...
