First time and so freaking overdue! The Richmond based Veil is a beer juggernaut that opened up a second location in Norfolk's Ghent hood pre pandemic in 2019.
I only experienced the downstairs on my visit with Yelp friend Bruce K. The Happy Hour pricing was a draw as well as stellar reviews.
Parking in their own smallish lot on a weekday was no problem. They also have free off street parking too! No debris in sight on my walk up. The signage is the building itself which is darn cool. They also offer outdoor seating.
I started off with a Blend which is a Pale and Pilsner if I recall and it was tasty. The counter service was excellent. You can cash tip or card. Customers can also leave a tab open.
The seating is wood bench type that comfortably seats six. The aesthetics of the first floor is high ceilings, concrete floors and walls. The kitchen has a garage door over the front. The space was previously a restaurant, but before may have been a factory, or warehouse. Only negative was elevated music, but that’s just me.
Prior to Happy Hour concluding I ordered a $6 on special smash burger that comes with fries. No other dudes are available. The regular price is $12, so this is a deal friends.
In about 20 minutes burgers and fries were delivered to the table. The look was downright amazing, so pretty much knew this bad boy was gonna be a hitter. The burger comes with double patty, cheese, Dukes mayo, lettuce a pickle. If something else I'm sorry I forgot. The first bite was phenomenal! Fresh bread, perfectly cooked 80/20 beef which was not greasy. The construction was a masterpiece. The thin fries were cooked crispy and seasoned well, yum!
Honestly I could eat that burger everyday. The whole experience was exceptional and worthy of a full 5. Totally recommend checking The Veil...
Read moreThe Veil Brewing Co. has definitely carved out a significant niche in the craft beer scene, and their Norfolk location lives up to much of the hype. It's a fantastic spot for serious beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike, offering a compelling experience that often hits the mark. The beer selection is undoubtedly the main draw, and it's consistently impressive. They're known for their New England IPAs, stouts, and sours, and you'll usually find a diverse tap list with new and exciting options. The quality of the brews is generally top-notch, with creative flavor profiles and excellent execution. I particularly appreciate their willingness to experiment, and often, those experiments pay off wonderfully. The atmosphere is vibrant and modern, with a distinct industrial-chic vibe that fits perfectly with the brewery aesthetic. It's a great place to gather with friends, and the staff are typically knowledgeable and friendly, ready to guide you through the extensive beer menu. My reason for a four-star instead of a five-star rating comes down to a couple of minor points. Sometimes, the tap list can be a bit heavily weighted towards certain styles (like IPAs), which might leave someone looking for a broader range slightly wanting. Also, on peak days, it can get incredibly busy, making it a bit challenging to find a comfortable spot or get quick service. While these are minor quibbles, they keep it just shy of perfect for me. Overall, The Veil Brewing Co. is a must-visit for craft beer lovers in Norfolk. It's a dynamic brewery with a strong commitment to quality and innovation, offering a great space to enjoy some truly...
Read moreWow, this place is one of the coolest breweries I have visited in Virginia. Everything looked brand new. And the beer was phenomenal. I love IPAs, especially hazy ones, and Veil had a lot of options. As soon as I saw their beer list, I asked my wife to drive the next leg of our trip because I knew I would be sampling many of them- including many high abv beers. We sat all the way upstairs where they have a second bar in a huge open room with garage door windows. It was a beautiful spring day, so many of the doors were open to the breeze and rooftop vistas. They have a decent food menu and we had the wings, which were meaty and delicious. But the beer was the best part. Master Shredder, S.U.R.E., Crucial Taunt, and Chubbles were my favorites- all highly rated on Untappd. There are two more Veil locations in Richmond and everyone was telling us that we must get the Casa Burria tacos in one of the locations- so I will definitely be visiting there soon. The place was clean, the staff friendly and plentiful, and there were plenty of different seating options, including outdoor picnic tables. Visit this place if you are in the area, you will...
