I had take out but the staff were very friendly and the place looked very nice inside. I’ll come back and try again. These are my reviews of the 3 dishes I tried.
Pot Roast - 8/10 Tender, home style and a little bit too salty. I wish the sides were served separately in the to-go container because everything had mixed together and gotten very soggy by the time I ate it. Pretty good though. 👍🏼
Chicken Sausage Gumbo - 4/10 I’m not sure what this is, but it’s not gumbo. It is shredded chicken and two tiny pieces of sausage in some sort of brown gravy that tastes like cardboard. It was so thick that it sat on top of the rice it was served with, without even getting the rice moist. It had a floury chalky texture and was very one dimensional. This could be improved by layering in more flavors. Tomato, bell pepper, onion, celery, okra. Develop the stock more. Whatever bag/box mix you are using is very bad. I think the meat was cooked well but the flavor of the sausage, which should shine in a gumbo, was totally lost in the goopy brown gravy. Good luck.
Goat Griot with Pikliz - 2/10 The menu says this goat is “marinated and grilled to tender perfection” but mine was completely bland, very tough and dry as a bone. The Pikliz was fine but exceedingly spicy, and the flavor felt imbalanced. It was all spice and sour with no sweet or savory notes to bring it together. Both of these items were served dry over rice with no sauce, which meant that I was left with a big bunch of plain white rice on my plate. Griot is traditionally served with plantains instead of rice, which would have brought a lovely sweet balance. This dish feels very poorly developed. The goat needs to be treated much better. I have a hard time believing that someone intentionally designed and served a dish that was this bad and difficult to eat. Griot goat is usually cooked for a long time, braised and then fried so that it can reach an internal temperature needed to break down the cartilage that makes the meat tough. I didn’t give it one star because the Pikliz was made with very fresh veggies which I appreciated, and there was some attempt at seasoning the goat, which was a good start. Also the rice was cooked well, even though I didn’t want to eat a bunch of plain white...

This was our first visit since BillyGoat Grub opened its doors on Main Street, offering a refreshing take on casual dining. This quaint new establishment boasts a chic industrial vibe that's both stylish and welcoming. I love the ceiling tiles, a great added detail, and the local art on offer displayed on the walls shows dedication to the community.
From the moment you step in, you're greeted by a friendly staff whose stellar service truly stands out. I particularly appreciated the visible kitchen from certain vantage points – a nice touch that speaks to their commitment to transparency.
It’s clear this place is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch, or settling in for a dinner with friends. There were tvs at the bar, so this would also be a great spot to grab some small bites (saw they are also on offer) and a few drinks while watching a game.
We decided to sample a variety of dishes, and we weren't disappointed. The salad was crisp and flavorful, elevated by a delightful baked cheese crisp topping. The Philly egg rolls were a savory delight, perfectly complemented by their accompanying dipping sauce. And the mac and cheese? Absolutely delicious – creamy with a flavorful breadcrumb topping that added just the right crunch. I really enjoyed this creamy take on mac and cheese. We ordered the side size, but the option of the meal plate with added meat options was tempting!
The undisputed star of the show today was the Goat Griot with Pizliz. Wow! The meat was incredibly tender, easily cut with just a fork. The pizliz, with its perfect balance of spicy and cool, was the ideal counterpoint to the rich goat and rice. I loved hearing the story of how this meal came to be, thank you for sharing!
I'm already looking forward to my next visit to explore more of their diverse menu when we are in town again. I highly recommend this spot! Do yourself a favor and stop by – you won't be...
Read moreSo this place brought a food truck to my place of work but the lines were too long and I went with a different option. But today we decided to go there for lunch, and oh my gosh was it good! I wish I had endured the line to this food truck just so I could try more of their food. Guess I'll just have to keep coming back. I had the philly cheese steak, with Mac and cheese, and a cup of their chicken and sausage gumbo. The philly was one of the best I've ever had. The mac was delicious, and I liked the chicken and sausage gumbo. I might have gone with an andouille sausage in it but it's still really good. Then we had their pecan pie for dessert. You HAVE to try it. To date, the best pecan pie I had ever had was made by an old cowboy I'm his cast iron. That changed today! The food was spectacular but the service was just as good. They brought us some Cajun fries complementary, since 2 of my group had gone there for lunch the day before, as a thank you for coming back. The chef came out to make sure everything was good, and the waiter was very on top of things and really friendly. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be coming back with my family! *I'll take...
