I stayed here for 4 nights in RM 232 in late April of 2023. I came to Norman to visit my hometown and my alma mater.||||This hotel is located very close to the intersection of South University Blvd. and White Street. It is about 200 yards from the entrance to the North Oval entrance on Boyd to the OU Campus.||||The hotel just opened this past fall according to the staff. IIt is a brand new building that has just over 100 hotel rooms, a sports bar, and a restaurant.||The hotel rooms are on the 2nd., 3rd, and 3th floor. The sports bar is on the 2nd floor while the restaurant is on the first floor.||||There are two ways into the hotel. The one from South University Blvd or the front goes into the restaurant section. The main entrance is on the south side of the building through the main driveway.||||The lobby is very nice and spacious considering the other hotels in Norman. The registration desk is right in front of you upon entering the main door. The stairs to the 2nd floor at least are to the right of the it. You can not miss them. It also leads to the sports bar which is only open on certain days of the week.||||Upon landing on the 2nd floor I turned right to to come to a card access door to reach the rooms on this floor. Then I used the same card to access my room.||Both doors are tap the badge reader type.||||Upon entering my room the bathroom was on the left with a sliding door. Inside the bathroom the shower is on the left, the toilet straight ahead of you, and the sink with a very wide and deep countertop with a single wide sink. The shower and sink area came with luxury comlimentary like shampoo, conditioner, etc.. The bathroom is very spacious. You can easily have 2 people in there at the same time.||I would guess it is about 7 feet between the shower and the sink side. The lighting in the bathroom I think is descent. Not makeup table bright but good.||||Passing the bathroom you come to the bedroom. Along the right side is a good table/counter with the flatscreen TV(around 50 inch) on it. Along the back wall is a window with roll up window curtains. There is also a sofa chair olong the wall.||THe other wall were the 2 queen beds with a very good size night stand with lots of space on top for both beds. There is a 2 plug-in electrical outlet just aboe the nightstand. There is a wall mounted light between the beds that is more like a reading lamp. Not strong light. Interestingly there is no phone in the room. Makes sense since everyone uses cellphone now.||||On the other wall is a amour(sp?). A modern square one with one half for hangingg things. I would say you can hang about 3-5 suits in that portions. The other half is like shoebox size compartment you can put shoes or whatever in. I saw an ironing board inside as well as an umbrella. I did not see an iron in there. Maybe somewhere else in the room or get it from the main desk. Next to the amour is a shelved piece where you can find glasses, cups, along with I think were coffee/tea. Not sure. In the lower half of this piece is a refrig which I used quite a bit.||||The room is spacious by average hotel room types. About 5 feet between the beds. 3-4 feet on both sides of each bed, and the same in front of the beds at least. This is the open space around the room People can easily get around.||||The main drawback I saw in the room was lighting, esp. in the hallway from the main door to the bedroom. There is no lighting in that area. The room overall is dim unless you open the window. Nonetheless I could live with it but if someone wants strong lighting at night you might have a problem.||||I ate in the hotel's restaurant one night. I had the salmon which they say is their most populpar. It is good. They put what seems like a very light smokey and sweet BBQ sauce on it. I usually like my fish fresh and not spiced or sweetened and found this intriguing. I thought it was worth getting. It appears they bring their meals a la carte. It was just fish and little else. There was no side options with the meail. They did have appetizers of salad and some other items. They also had some desserts.||I had a small salad and a dessert. They were good as well. The restaurant only serves lunch and dinner now but I was told they plan breakfast in the futu5re. They only have bread/roll and jam in the morning now.||||I was told by the staff this hotel is book full for OU football home games for the next 2 seasons. I would had been shocked if that was not the case.. I was also told this place is planning on a Marriott brand. Having stayed at a number of hotels in Norman this has to be the most luxurious of them all right now.||||I had no problem getting a room day before I arrived. I did not see many guests initially but later I saw business pick up as the weekend approached.. The restaurant also had some peole in there at times.||||There are not many choices to stay in central Norman. A couple of BB and cheap hotel. Otherwise you wuold have to stay along I-35 or Hwy 9. That is a really good walk, over a mile.||||The hotel is located on the edge of Campus Corner. There are several bars and a number of restaurants around. O'Connell is a good bar with nice burgers. Greek House if you like gyros. Othello is a bar/Italian restaurant. There are many others there .||||Overall, I would stay here again because you can conveniently walk from hre to the OU Campus. You could to downtown...
Read moreSorry for the long review, but it may be useful to others. I have delayed writing this review thinking I would forget about this very negative experience over time.
This is not a review about negligent dog owners in hotel rooms, that's a given. Instead, its about how poorly a hotel that embraces dogs actually handles dog problems.
Our weekend two-night stay, costing nearly $700 (Mar 22, 23) was very nice until the morning of Mar 24. We were awakened in the morning by loud, constant barking from a small dog in a nearby room. The dog was clearly in distress because the owners had apparently left it alone. (We originally thought there were two dogs in that room, but realized the second dog barking was from another room down the hall, occasionally responding to sound of the first dog.) We tolerated it for nearly an hour before I stepped outside to determine and report the source.
Once in the hallway, a female housekeeper came toward me and said "Room 421", identifying this problem without the need for me to even speak. She was in the process of using her radio to report the problem to the front desk. Here's the reason this hotel deserves a "1 star" rating: I clearly overheard the young man answering her on her radio speaker that "Room 421 has ambassador status and I don't want to make them angry". What?? Is that like my Hilton Diamond status, which I would never dream of using to negligently disturb neighbors.
So, I took the elevator down to the front desk and asked for an explanation. The young man there said he would "try to figure out the correct wording before calling them". When I asked if visitors are even allowed to leave dogs alone in rooms, he said "probably not". Clearly, the hotel was not interested in stopping the disturbance.
Realizing he was a road block, I asked to speak to the manager. Moments later an older blonde female approached me and apologized. After some discussion, she admitted she was not really the manager and was only in "sales". She said no manager was available, he's "in a meeting". With no solution, I returned to my room. But upon approaching my door, two adult women (mother/daughter coming back from breakfast?) were coming off the elevator and heading for room 421. With no managerial support, I approached them myself and told them how unacceptable this dog behavior is in a hotel. They didn't seem very concerned and said they were checking out anyway.
Later that morning when we were checking out, I asked again to see the manager. The same young man at the counter retrieved the same blonde lady who again told me she was only in "sales", and that the manager was "in a meeting". So we gave up.
This was definitely the Noun Hotel delivering a 1 star experience by leaving resolution of dog disturbances entirely up to the customer.
Bottom line -- If you travel with dogs, even those that like to bark, this will be a very nice hotel for you. But if you don't have dogs and don't wish to hear them, or prefer not to have to address negligent dog owners yourself, I would definitely recommend booking elsewhere. This is truly a dog hotel and there's a great possibility you will hear dogs. It's really a shame because this could be a...
Read moreWe stayed three nights at the NOUN hotel as part of a business trip. We picked this property because of its location and because it’s a Marriott property. We were very happy with it!||The room was spacious and definitely intentionally decorated. We didn’t mind the décor but could see that it might be a little “clean-lined” for some people, and the random Western design influences throughout the hotel are not for everyone. But the bed was super comfy; the room had an awesome large cushy chair by the window, the shower temperature and water pressure were great; the sink area had plenty of counter space; and the double window shades, while a little weird, definitely blocked out most of the light (just tiny slivers on the edges would allow light in). The room had a mini fridge and a much-appreciated Lavazza coffee maker. ||The less amazing aspects of the room were the weird lighting decisions (placement was bizarre and there needed to be more light in the room in general) and the room temperature control was pretty good but not stellar (however, it was scorching hot while we were there.) Wifi was good but was the kind that would boot you out if you didn’t use it for a while and then make you sign back in, which is super annoying. ||The fitness center was fantastic for a hotel gym and had pretty much everything that you’d need (including a fridge full of bottled waters, yay.)||We ate breakfast in the hotel once and it was fine. ||Self-parking in the adjacent lot was $10 a day. ||Staff were all super nice.||On two late afternoons the lobby/public areas were hopping – this property seems to host a lot of local corporate/social events, which is great people watching and/or chaotic, depending on your perspective.||We had seen some previous reviews complaining about various room issues, but we think that aside from people just wanting to complain about dumb stuff, because of the hotel’s location to the university and perhaps having rates jump up on popular weekends, that might contribute to folks not feeling like they got their money’s worth. We really liked the NOUN hotel and would recommend it to anyone...
