Sam’s Southern Eatery — Restaurant in Norman

It's not terrible by any means, it's just not that good either. Ordered alot of different things and the best tasting thing we had (that shouldn't even be on the menu) was a philly cheese steak hoagie. They dont season the southern food right and it comes out lacking. Not bad but lacking that southern taste you would expect from this place. Our wait staff was a kind and attentive lady who is obviously over worked. We went there when the owner and someone who appeared to be related to the owner had their shift but the only one who looked to be working was the over worked lady waiting tables. I really hope the 30% tip only went into the wait lady's pocket because she seemed to be the only person in that restaurant that made sense. The other employees including the owner obviously enjoy a family owned restaurant for the sake of ownership and not for the purposes of providing good southern food. No soul in this soul food unfortunately. Like I said it's not terrible, it's also not good.

SEASON OUR...

Dined at this location when visiting my aunt in Oklahoma City. We were greeted with warm welcomes and smiles upon entering the restaurant and were quickly seated. The restaurant decor was an eclectic mix of underwater style and old world charm but tastefully done. It definitely gave the eyes something to do while waiting on the food! Our waiter was very polite and helpful, informing us about the specials and answering our questions. I ordered my catfish and shrimp grilled with recommended rice and beans and fries. The fish and shrimp were simply delicious with lemon pepper seasoning. It was not rubbery. The shrimp were a good size. Also, the seasoning on the fries was to perfection. The red beans and rice needed a little more rice and slightly less salt but otherwise was very tasty! The hushpuppies were simply delicious. Free refills on drinks added to the value of our meal. I definitely will come back to dine here on my next...

I wanted to leave a review for this location specifically, because I've been to a couple of the different locations and this one is hands down the best.

I want to start off by saying I've never cared for catfish. But this place? This place actually makes me -crave- their catfish, it's so good. My fiancé is the same way, but after I introduced him, one of us usually winds up there at least once a week or so. We both got our coworkers hooked as well. The food is consistently well-seasoned, perfectly cooked, and piping hot. And even though all my favorite things there are fried, they're not greasy at all, which I love. Their staff is friendly as helpful as well.

We went to another location, now that we're familiar with them, and I gotta say it was a real letdown; this one has definitely spoiled us. I will say I've never been to a -bad- one per se (yet anyway), but they paled in comparison...
