TL:DR: wow, this place has great food and a warm and welcoming environment.
I went into this place with zero expectations. I was in the area doing an errand and needed to kill some time, so when I peeked through the window and saw some quality spirits on the bar shelf I was encouraged to come in for a drink.
I was greeted so incredibly warmly by Jay, that I thought he must have mistaken me for a family member! It was fabulous! Then we had a wonderful conversation about some of the spirits on his shelf(Blantons, Ardbeg Corryvrecken, ect). At this point I knew these people appreciate great food.
I had to continue my errands, but I returned with my wife for dinner. Once again we were treated like family, and Jay spent so much time with us, it was so fun!! We told him we didnt really know what to order but we wanted 2 curries, one with fish, and 2 orders of Naan, one butter naan and one honey ginger naan. He asked us some follow-up questions and promised that he would enjoy what he brought out.
STELLAR!! What came out to us tasted so fresh and delicious, that I was overjoyed.
The fish curry had a wonderful thick body and was packed with creamy-savory-sweet flavors. It transported me back 20 years to my time in California, the last time I had something similar, but it was even better than even my rose colored glasses remembered.
The lamb dish that came out was just as amazing. The body of the curry was less thick than the fish curry but it was clearly a different style. The lamb chunks were slightly smaller than I'm used to but that allowed more lamb filled bites which I really liked!! Finally I was blown away by how much flavor of the meat itself carried through in...
Read moreWe stopped in with a big appetite and high expectations. We're long time aficionados of Indian cuisine. We were seated immediately and had begun to peruse the menu when Chef Jay came to our table, introduced himself, and asked if we had any questions. We were used to all the old standbys but there were a lot of dishes on the menu that we'd never encountered and after a few questions Jay asked if he could help us order. We readily agreed and he began to ask us questions about our comfort with spiciness, dietary restrictions, our favorite types of meat, etc. We agreed to put ourselves in his hands and thus began a truly unique culinary experience. Each dish was distinct, perfectly prepared, and a very generous portion. Every once in a while Jay would stop by and ask what we liked about each dish and how we felt about the seasonings, using that information to decide what the next one would be. We were getting full but having so much fun that we didn't want to stop. We ended up taking home three loaded boxes of leftovers and I'm enjoying some of them right now as I'm writing. I can't remember the last time I had such a personal, tailored dining experience and there's not one choice that Jay made that I would have changed. After that avalanche of delicious food I was expecting a hefty bill but the cost was very reasonable and a bargain for the amount of home cooked, expertly prepared food and the level of service that we experienced. I really can't recommend this gem...
Read moreGreat food and charm at Jays Indian Kitchen! Authentic flavors, amazing menu selection with plenty of vegetarian options as well as varying types of Indian preparations. Plenty of variety for adventurous or conservative diners alike!
We got the samosa chaat appetizer, methi chicken curry, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and honey ginger naan. All were delicious and perfectly executed!
A bit of feedback to amplify the entire experience might be to staff 1 or 2 more service members in the front. The one server seemed stretched thin during lunch service with little wiggle room to make cocktails, cash diners out, spend time with each party, upsell menu items, and have great attention to detail.
Papadum order was missed. I also think each curry order should come with its own serving of rice. Versus one small bowl for two, so the diner can feel they’re getting a greater value. A little chilly and drafty inside, however the space is super cute, charming and I love the sayings printed on the walls! Awesome to see such great Indian cuisine being shared in the heart of Attleboro. Will definitely be back and recommend to friends. Wish you were closer to Southcoast MA, we would be consistent...
