Olde School Deli — Restaurant in North Canaan

The food was amazing but the service was beyond awful. They basically scammed us out of money. My family went there for the first time after living in Canaan for about 30 years. We went for their railroad days special burger and were told they were out of the sides that came with it. No big deal. The waitress listed off other sides we could choose instead. We all choose sides and when it came to my sister she asked for coleslaw and was told it would be extra, So she opted for fries instead since the waitress said they WERE INCLUDED with the price of the special. After our meal we were given the check which was a crazy amount for 5 people getting $8 burgers and only 2 getting drinks. When my mother inquired about the price the waitress told us that all the sides costed extra after telling us they were included with the meal! She told my mother that it says it right on the menu; she never gave us menus!! So our bill was about $30 more than we intended to spend because the waitress lied and told us all sides, EXCEPT COLESLAW, were included. Such a disappointment. Will be letting everyone I know how sketchy...

Very rude I went in and ordered a Sandwich to go , and had me prepay before filling the order Then once payment was taken and they started the make my order, they demanded I wait outside while order was being placed... While other Customer remained inside and sitting at tables eating... I was confused... There was only the staff and 2 other Customer in the establishment.. When asked why I couldn't sit a an open booth, while order was being filled The 2 ladies behind the counter stated I wouldn't be in compliance with the 6 ft rule for Covid While both of them were behind the counter only inches apart... There were over six empty booths inside This doesn't make sense They said because you’re a to-go order I needed to wait outside

You can't make this stuff up

If I hadn't prepaid for the order I would have just canceled it Hense now I understood why they wanted me to prepay before making the Sandwich

Attempted to give this place our money today, they didn't want it. Big 5 foot sign outside the door that says, "Milkshakes, Ice Cream Cones, Sundaes". Incredibly rude woman behind the counter asks us if we wanted take out or eat in. We said takeout. Immediately she said (without knowing what we wanted)...."that will be a 45 minute wait". My husband said that he just wanted a milkshake and that I wanted a soda. Miss personality looked at us like we wanted her to travel to the moon to get our food, shook her head with disdain and said "We cannot make you a milkshake" She then turned and walked away from us, no reason given, no apology, no nothing. It is amazing how some businesses simply do not want your money. We won't be going back and I'm posting this review so others won't waste their time either. Going anywhere else would be a...
