Considering that this Whiskey River is situated in an outdated airport, it was pretty good on balance, and I was happy to stop in there last Friday evening. For starters, Cameron was cordial and helpful and made everyone at the bar who was willing to feel welcome feel welcome (there were some weird patrons there, to be honest). Whiskey River (and everyone who visits) is lucky that he is there. There was also live music, which was pretty cool and not something you usually encounter at an airport bar/restaurant. The beer was cold, and the lines were clean. The food was perfectly fine, even tasty (I had the quesadilla) for a non-hoity-toity airport establishment. Nothing was near as bad as most of the reviews predicted, which, in large part seem to come from people that must not travel that often. This is not a place I would go for a special occasion, true, but it is in an airport, for Pete’s sake, and it did it’s job in that context quite well. Thanks, Whiskey River. And thank...
Read moreI'm actually astonished at how good the salmon entree was here. My flight was delayed and I was looking for something that wasn't total junk. Essentially every other place in the airport is burgers, sandwiches, pastries, etc. I decided to come here for the salmon and once I ordered it I was contemplating my choice-- salmon at an airport seems super sketchy but I figured I'd give it a shot as there weren't any other healthy options anywhere. I was pleasantly surprised how well this salmon came out, cooked perfectly. The broccoli and potatoes on the side were good too. If I'm ever stuck with delays here I'll come back for the same thing. Environment was fine, a nice place to sit and relax while you wait. Order through the QC at the table is easy. Food came out at a reasonable time considering every table was full, about 25 minutes. Staff were friendly. No complaints. (I broke the corner of the salmon before taking the pic to give a glimpse of...
Read moreFirst, I should day that the RDU airport is EXTREMELY lacking in food options. This is one of only 2 places to get food and a tap beer that were open. Also, I'm not a fan of places that make you open their menu on your phone. Maybe I'm just old-school? Tables and floor could have been cleaner. When the whole staff seems to have time to hang out looking at their phones, seems like there's not an excuse for sticky tables. And Finally, the food was just plain bad. We ordered pulled pork nachos, on the server's recommendation. I've never had COLD nachos before. Everything was COLD and straight out of a can.; canned pork, canned cheese dip, canned corn, canned beans, canned jalepenos. You get the idea. It was just plain bad, I can't imagine anyones who'd actually eaten nachos before would like it... Will bring a sandwich to the ariport next...
