This was the worst experience I have ever had at tiki taco. The service was terrible from the start, I asked for water and some chips and dip for there and told her I would place a takeout order too. She brings the waters out with no ice in them and in a small cup but then the guy behind me had a big cup and had ice because you could here it moving around when he picked it up. Then she brings my queso cheese out cold. Then I ask for ice and dump it into the waters and there was orange stuff in the ice. Then I get my takeout food and she didn't even give me my beans and rice, when I asked for it she tried saying it didn't come with it when it clearly says on the menu the birria taco plate comes with beans and rice or guac salad for an upcharge. Then had someone else come out to me to ask me about it. I told him the same thing and he grabbed it for me. So I pack up my chips and cold dip and decided I'd heat it up when I got back home. I get home to eat and the first thing I chose was my street corn, now let me tell you street corn and birria tacos are my go to but THIS WAS THE WORST STREET CORN I have EVER had. It was over cooked and had hardly any Mexican mayo or spices, it was so nasty and dry that I threw it away. Then I tried my birria tacos, it was nothing but the fat off the meat and didn't taste right so after I ate one I immediately said no I don't want that and started feeling nauseous, I immediately got sick. So I called them back and told them about it and they said to bring it back to get my money back. Then I get there to bring it back but instead of taking it and giving my money back they gave me a hard time until I finally got super agitated with it because the whole time I'm standing there I feel nauseous and they are trying to act like it's not a big deal and trying to keep the money, finally he goes to give me my money back but the server tried to give a dollar less back and keep the tip. It took about 15 mins just to get my money back for food that got me sick. Definitely would not recommend this tiki taco to ANYONE. Just save the troubles and go to Summerville. This one should be shut down. They don't even have a liquor license either so all "drinks" you buy are actually wine based but they won't tell you that unless...
Read moreWow what to say. The food my husband and I ordered was good I wouldn't say amazing but it was very good but seem to be missing the right amount of proportion of veggies that should have been on his plate but we did not complain. I don't know about some of you but being a mom of four 2 newborns and fairly new to Charleston I'm on a budget so when I pay $18 for a plate and if I can't finish it dining in I like to take my food home and it's a go plate for later. So as I'm preparing my to-go box and our table just a few feet away from check out my husband gets in line to pay but he notices he forgot his wallet in the car so he asked what I come stand in the line and everyone heard him mind you everyone was staring so it was heard what was going on, I get up to stand in his place leaving my to go box that the waitress just had gave me & me saying yea I like to take my food home that I can't finish (this was still 2 more plates to eat just from my left over since I wasn't feeling well that day & seriously only took a couple of bites. Where I come from u wait til your customer is gone to pick up your tip etc. But no while my keys, to go plate, & tip is to the side & I'm in line she darts over to the table as my husband is coming bk in at the same time so I turn & as I start bk to the table a customer beside me said she grabbed your plate (even this girl knew I was coming BK seeing what was going on) I said don't tell me she threw it away after just handing it to me! The girl replied with idk. So I take two steps & ask the waitress "Did u just throw my plate away?!" She says yes & looks down at the trash & said I'm sorry. Again $18 plus tip she didn't work for & no one offers half my money bk or at least to cook me more. RUDE, INCONSIDERATE, I'll say EMPLOYEE instead of what I really think cuz it's not waitress. I did NOT eat that night or next day bc of this! Not to mention the tortillas they brought us were so small they couldn't even hold rice, come on. They are afraid of using their products!! Your $$ is better spent at a taco truck or one of our favs La Hacienda etc too...
Read moreTiki Taco - ya ya ya! Out of this world amazing! No clue why the super critical negative reviews - they seem off based. This place should be a 5+ star option! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
We ordered a variety of items; tacos, burritos, elote, chips n salsa, margarita, etc. Truly authentic and blissfully amazing tasting! There is no texican infusion whatsoever. It's like I stepped into a local cantina in MX!
The asada was great *note to owner- can you pls add asada fries to the menu!?👀, the chicken was tender and mesquite, the beef crumbles were seasoned, all toppings were fresh. The elote was perfectly grilled and seasoned. Yes, yes, yess!
The real show stoppers were the SALSA, ELOTE, handmade corn tortillas, the salsas to go with your meals - roja/chili y verde/tomatillo, and the pollo. I mean bomb dot com! SALSA: with chips, fresh fresh, pur ingredients, and yes you have to pay for those... y'all quitcherbithcin'! This place is so inexpensive compared to everything else around a 40 mile radius. Pay the $1.50 and enjoy the best salsa I've had state side! ELOTE : oh my heavens the best "street corn" I've had since leaving the countries! Perfectly grilled, crema, cojita, chili lime. Sweet, tender crisp corn cobs. The entire crew was asking for extra elote!
After spending time downtown, uptown, east, and west of Charleston, TIKI TACO is 100% going on the must-return list!☆
Don't waste your time and money downtown. THIS is the BEST authentic Mexican...
