We’ve been here before and it was good. And I give second chances to restaurants because I feel like everyone has a bad day but we will never go back here! We arrived just after 7 as a party of 9, the hostess was quick to ask if we had a reservation as if the dining room was full, we told her no and waited about 10 minutes for a table, no problem. When our server came out to get drink orders we asked if splitting the check would be a problem so that we could let him know who went on which checks. He said not at all, we'll do it at the end. He came back with our drinks, pickles and said he’d bring back bread as soon as it came out of the oven. He then took food orders. I ordered a Reuben and asked for it on white bread, he said no problem, someone else got a chicken sandwich and asked for no peppers or mushrooms but extra cheese and add bacon, again, no problem, next up asked for gravy on his fries, certainly, next, the same chicken sandwich no bun, no problem, three people later a patty melt and around we went, everything seemed fine. First three dishes to come out my Reuben on rye and made with roast beef, I quickly remembered that the menu did say corned beef, pastrami, or roast beef, next a chicken sandwich with peppers, onions, and cheese and lastly a chicken sandwich hold the bun, this one was right. We stopped the food runner and advised that the chicken had been ordered no peppers, it should have onions, bacon and extra cheese and I then let him know that I had asked for white bread and apologized for not indicating that I wanted corned beef (even though I feel like the server should have asked), he was very apologetic and said he would get the two meals corrected. Fast forward another 5-10 minutes and the other food came out along with the chicken sandwich, this time it was chicken and cheese on a bun, no onion and no bacon, what the heck. The other food was somewhat correct, no gravy on the fries and no mushrooms on another sandwich, still waiting on the Reuben and oh yeah, is the bread out of the oven yet? One of us had a grilled chicken Cesar that had so much water on the lettuce that the dressing wouldn’t even stick to it, the water puddled with the dressing on the bottom of the bowl leaving it soggy. He was going to bring back mushrooms and gravy as well as the hot bread. He did bring the bread but that was it and when the one with the chicken sandwich said my sandwich was supposed to have onions, bacon, and extra cheese his response was well the kitchen is out of onions. Really? They clearly hadn’t been out of onions earlier because there were onions on the first sandwich mixed in with the peppers but even if you were out the proper thing would have been to come to the table and say I’m sorry but we’re out of onions could I get you something different? But apparently that’s now how they do things at Gregg’s. We had a huge ant crawl across our table so then the manager came out to get pictures because she was concerned about that. Turns out she was the hostess who seemed frustrated that we had a large group without a reservation. She did however apologize for the ant, not any of the food being wrong multiple times but the ant. By the time my Reuben arrived everyone else was just about done with their dinner and we were all ready to leave. The manager was frustrated that we all finally came to the front counter to get our checks because we’d been waiting at least 30 minutes with no visit from the server or the manager. Needless to say everyone was on edge and it was obvious. One of us asked her what she thought could’ve been handled differently she got angry and said she couldn’t comp the bill because it was over $200 and she had already called her manager and that wasn’t going to happen. The point to be made here was not that our bill needs to be comped but that as a manager, she should have been to the table as soon as the problems started, if our server couldn’t handle a large party or needed help she should’ve stepped up and helped not said “well I’m pregnant and I’ve been here since 8:30...
Read moreGregg's used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but since the pandemic the quality and preparation of the food has tanked, and so has the service.
My giant pretzel arrived burnt, while the "warm" cheese sauce was cold and concealing. My small salad had a giant, inedible lettuce core/stem planted on top - it made ip about 1/3 of the salad. My half sandwich came toasted - even though I did not order it that way and it was not listed that way on the menu - on sesame bread (no choice of bread, either). My guess is that the bread was stale and they tried to hide the fact by toasting it until it was as dry and stiff as wood.
My server couldn't be bothered to stand while he took the table's order, so he sat down with us at the booth. He also couldn't be bothered to bring the mayonnaise he'd offered me for my sandwich, or check on the table until it was time to bring our tab. He saw that I hadn't eaten my half-sandwich and asked if I wanted a box. I was tempted to say, "No, I want mayonnaise" but I held my tongue. I just wanted to get out of there. I did ask for mayonnaise with my to-go, box, which he forgot as he rudely dropped the box in front of me and walked off. I had to call after him to remind him that he forgot my mayonnaise. Again. Got an attitude for it. So glad I didn't ask for the pickles he never bothered to offer!
I always tip at least 20%, but in this case I was not about to express "gratitude" for being treated like an afterthought.
I was looking forward to going back this weekend to see Sammi Ronci perform, but I'll wait until she's back at their East Providence location. You could not pay me to set foot in this...
Read moreWhen we entered the restaurant, the host led us to a smaller room on the left side and seated us in a booth. Unfortunately, the booth was not very comfortable. While we were browsing the menu, we were served small, very pale bread rolls that looked underbaked and could have used more time in the oven. The butter provided was hard, straight from the fridge, and difficult to spread, though the pickles served alongside were a nice touch.
We eventually placed our order, but the overall dining experience quickly became unpleasant. The room we were seated in was extremely cold, and I noticed that most of the other patrons were still wearing their winter jackets or coats, which confirmed that the heating issue was not just affecting us. Sitting there, freezing, while waiting for our food was far from enjoyable. If we hadn’t been hosting guests, I honestly would have left within the first five minutes.
When the food arrived, it was okay at best. Some dishes had specific issues—for example, the bread on top of the soup was burnt, and the rice was barely warm. These small details added to the already disappointing experience.
The cold room, uncomfortable seating, and lackluster food made the entire outing unenjoyable. I hope I don’t end up catching a cold after spending so much time in such a chilly environment.
Given all of these factors, I do not plan to return to this restaurant. It’s a shame because I was hoping for a much...
