Roy Boy’s Clam Shack — Restaurant in North Kingstown

The food is pretty decent, but not consistent. I’ve eaten there twice now. One time the white chowder was full of potato’s and one time there was barely anything but clams, both times it was wayyy too watery for a white chowder. White chowder should be thick and creamy.

The clam cakes had good flavor and are nice and big. A bit airy inside, if that makes sense, not sure how to explain it.

The pickle chips…. Now I was a little disappointed in these. I was excited to see these on the menu, however, they were very, very undercooked, no crisp at all. Had to end up cooking them more in the air fryer. I like that they were thin though and not sourced in super thick batter.

The wieners were good, however, the meat tasted like it was sprinkled with old bay seasoning instead of celery salt and for almost $9, I felt a bit jipped on the minimal fries. Also, just to note, I did not get any cole slaw, which is no big deal since I don’t like it, but it does say it’s part of the combo. The 2nd time, I ordered a 2 wiener combo with no onions and then just 2 wieners, 1 with onions, 1 without (not a combo)… Well, we ended up getting 3 wieners all with onions (🤢) and then one single wiener with no onions. No combo, no fries… of course the combo with no onions was dinner and I was craving it all day, so I’m a bit salty about this one, lol.

Fried Oreos.. Ehh ok.. kind of bland and the batter was undercooked. The batter could have us some vanilla or something.

Now the reason for my extra star removed… If you’re going to be on door dash, YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR HOURS CORRECT ON THERE!!! I placed an order twice this weekend and never received a confirmation. The first time, I was so hungry, after 15 minutes, I just canceled the order.. Then tonight, only 5 minutes had gone by and they hadn’t confirmed, but I was going to give it a few minutes and contact DoorDash, well, my dasher was already in the area I guess, because he called me and said that they were already closed and that the order needed to be canceled. I ordered at 8:19… How do you leave DoorDash orders open like that? Wasting...

I would really give them a 4.5 if I could. The white chowder had very good flavor, and creaminess. Some potatoes were cut a llitte large and because of that weren't as tender as I like, but I ate it all and lick the container too. The clam cakes were excellent, crispy outside and tender inside, and plenty of clams. The clam cakes aren't as dense as some I've had, however I think that made them even better. The clam strips were meaty and had good flavor, the tartar sauce was excellent and a very nice portion of clams for the price. The french fries were average, I like my fries a litte more crispy, these fries were floppy. The cole slaw was really good and had a nice balance of sweet and tangy. The cold lobster roll was good. The roll had a nice bite/density, the lettuce was crisp and the lobster while all claw and leg/knuckle meat had good flavor and didn't cost 28 dollars. So this lobster roll was not the very best I've ever had, but it had lots of lobster and hard to beat for the price. The service was fast and friendly. My order took about 6 minutes to be ready, so really fast. I will definitely be...

I ordered the coconut shrimp meal with fries and slaw, a small fry, bowl of clear chowder, clam cakes and a shrimp po boy. They forgot my po boy so when I went back and gave the girl my reciept and said they forgot it. she I assume went to tell the cook and he must have said he made it cus she came back and asked me if I was sure I didn't get it. I felt like they thought I was lying to them which made me feel awkward. I didn't even realize till I left they also forgot the slaw and fries that were supposed to come with the coconut shrimp. The food itself was pretty good. The chowder had lots of potatoes and clams and had great flavor, clam cakes were cooked perfectly and also had great flavor. The shrimp po boy and coconut shrimp also were very good. The fries I did not care for but fries come so differently from place to place and I'm sure some people probably like their frys there just not the type I like.. if I could break the review into service and food I'd give the food 5 stars...
