I have been to this restaurant many times before with excellent food and service. This time we had reservations for 7:30. When we arrived there were two groups of people in front of us waiting to be seated that stated they had been standing there for 15 minutes. The hostess seemed to be very stressed and running around busing tables, setting up tables and trying to seat people. There were tables of people close to the front door with crowds of people around their tables which was disturbing. We finally get seated, our waiter comes over like he had been running a marathon, very winded and took our drink order. We waited several minutes for TWO drinks. Our party was a table of four. We placed an appetizer order, had to keep asking for water then our waiter would disappear for several minutes at a time. We had to ask the host to find him so we could place our dinner order. Needless to say, our entire dinner experience took TWO HOURS before we ate our actual dinner. This was so disappointing. We had spoke highly about this restaurant to them before coming and to say it was a bad experience for them is an understatement. Not to mention my boyfriend ordered the elk chop that had to be returned and another dish ordered because of the presentation and size of the elk chop. It just seemed to be a total disappointment all together. It will be a long time before we return. Im hoping management sees this review so that these issues can...
Read moreI have mixed feeling about capeo and wanted to like it more. It seems like it's going to be upscale, but it has a relaxed feel to it, which is nice. Service was good all around. Wine is reasonably priced. Hard to tell if you're supposed to hold it to a high standard for fine dining, or if its just your local mom and pop Italian place. The reviews that mention a chef trained in Italy suggest the former, but the plastic menu with items crossed out in marker suggests the latter.
We tried the octopus antipasti, which was tender so thats good, but for me I couldn't taste it over the capers and raw ingredients (garlic, onions, and tomatoes). The mushroom soup tasted great, but was a little gritty maybe from ground up mushrooms. You can see it around the rim of the bowl in the picture, but maybe it's supposed to be that way? Might be better to just have large pieces of mushroom or just sieve it. We also tried the tagliatelle with porcini and one with ragu bolognese; I though the porcini was better. Some herb or seasoning was really overpowering in the bolognese. This was our first time going so we opted to stay away from the more expensive mains and just try pasta (most are $15-20). Not sure I'll be back to try the mains that run $20-32, but for a standard bowl of pasta I'd...
Read moreFor a white table cloth dining experience, I expected more. Service was average at best. There is nothing to write home about but not the bottom of the barrel. The restaurant was not busy, yet our water glasses ran empty, plates and silverware not cleared from the table, and wine glasses for the table were not given. (We had a bottle of wine for the table)
The restaurant was humid and very warm. I am not sure if the AC was working. Then there were flies and fruit flies that we were, pretty consistently, swatting.
Wine selection was descent while the spirit selection was lacking. However, the experienced bar tender made due and crafted excellent drinks.
I was disappointed, overall, with the food. The bread and pasta were fantastic, the elk was over seasoned, octopus was overcooked, bruscetta pieces were so large that they had to be split into thirds. Our vegetables with the elk were leftovers from who knows where. The presentation of our plates looked as if the chef had just come from their first job and decided to cook for the evening. For a $400 tab, with 5 guests, I would have expected a dinner salad or soup before our entre.
Overall, extremely underwhelming for a white table cloth dinner. It was definitely...
