Came to enjoy the game as everyone else.
Yet after being down by 8 by the second inning and doing my best to be the voice of inspiration, I was confronted by the police asked to tone down my volume because there were families there with children of whom were there to experience a game and not some guy yelling.
So I spoke with an officer on my way to the restroom, stating that I wasn’t touting obscenities and that if they informed the persons of whom complained that this was in fact a baseball game, a minor league game to be exact.
They said, we don’t have to explain anything. those folks are here to enjoy their experience as fit. To which I agreed because I too am a paying customer.
So I in turn dialed it down to the best of my abilities as far as “You’ve got this! Good Job, we still Love you!, Let’s Go Defense!”.
But that wasn’t enough.
Eventually I was escorted to speak with a representative of the establishment, of whom told me that I’ve been spoken to twice now. Of which I retorted, that the second time was upon my own accord whilst on my way to the restroom, looking for answers, and not upon their volition, and was aggressively told to listen to the person in question despite my opinions and observations.
Regardless, I was directed to either make my way to the beer garden and yell all that I wanted, or to leave.
I ended up staying and attending the beer garden area because their claims were ridiculous. To which I found more children within the beer garden area and of whom were exactly that, just as loud, if not louder and more supportive of the team than I, especially from where I was originally seated! And most likely not forced to be there because of their volume elsewhere but only because of their financial status.
After this one experience and wanting to have my friends from back home in AZ and Washington state specifically noting the Travelers association with Seattle.
I can wholeheartedly and sadly say that I will no longer support, attend, let alone endorse or request any of my friends or family, (regardless of whether or not they are Travelers, Mariners or baseball fans) respectively, to do the same when they come to town for a visit.
Regardless, the team did a fantastic job of offense and defense getting within one point away towards the final inning but failing to close out with the W.
Kudos to the team and the rest of the fans and staff for making everything a great as possible experience for a first timer to a Travelers game such as myself and those like me...
Read morenow this wasn't my first time visiting, but I felt I need to make a couple of comments about my evening. First off, the Staff for the suites were AMAZING. Everyone that we ran in to, had a smile on their face, and was so pleasant. Even if they were just passing by, they asked “can I help you with anything?" which was just great. The attendants in the parking lot also seemed to be really having a good time (although it was 96 degrees and they were standing in the blistering sun.) This was the first time I had reserved parking so I didn’t know where to go, but they not only pointed me in the right direction, but waved to another attendant to make sure that I made it where I needed to be.
Now my only gripe.. if you can call it that was that the night that we went was supposed to be Faith and Family night. And honestly it just seemed to be any other random Saturday night. There was nothing in place or around that made you feel like this was a night dedicated to Faith and Family. I know it is hard to get people to come to games, and you always need a gimmick, but if you do decide to make it a themed night, then it should resemble one. The music played in between innings was just your typical pop music you hear on the radio, no recognition for any Faith based or Family based organizations that might have been in attendance. Like I said it seemed like just a regular night at the ballpark.
So saying all of that, I do think that if you have not attended a game here, you really need to. The field is immaculate, there are no “bad seats” in this place. The players are close to you, and like I have already said the staff is amazing. Just make sure that if you are going to an event that is a “themed” night, you might have to look pretty hard to...
Read moreThe Travs have a decent stadium; the splash park (water play area for kids) beyond the center field concourse is the most distinguishing feature. The team museum was an enjoyable stop, full of artifacts and photos from the team's rich history.
It was a Copa de la Diversion evening when I attended (a Minor League Baseball program wherein teams adopt alternate identities to recognize and better identify with local Hispanic fans), so the Travs wore special Diamantes uniforms. There was even a mariachi band playing in various places on the concourse! I enjoyed this; one of our family's baseball memories is attending a USA-Mexico World Baseball Classic game in Phoenix, where the crowd was festive.
The concession choices are pretty standard for a ballpark; there were a couple of cool nacho/hot dog customization options at one kiosk. The lines at the stands and kiosks moved pretty quickly. I enjoyed my requisite ice cream sundae in a mini Travs helmet!
The team store is good, and comparable with several other AA teams' stores; there are plenty of choices for apparel, hats, and souvenirs. Staff members throughout the ballpark were friendly.
I attended on a take-your-dog night, only because it was the one night I was in town. I don't believe that dogs belong at a baseball game (I saw multiple dogs barking at each other and trying to tussle in the concourse), but other people obviously like taking their dogs, regardless of the hassle.
Overall, a game at Dickey-Stephens is what I expect when I go to a...
