It truly breaks my heart not to be able to rate all 5 stars. Maybe this review will help someone who is looking for an event center.
1 star-for the break taking views (hands down this was what sold me) I drove 3hr and 30 mins passing a number of opportunities for this venue.
2 star- goes to the Bartender who worked during "Happy Hour" I regret not being able to published her name along with the two ladies who ended the night with us. Had we had them for our entire experience (this rating would be much higher). They were pleasant, kind, and very helpful with direction, ending the night, and making sure our guest enjoyed their "Drinks" I'm so grateful for them the LEMON DROP was the BEST I have ever had. The food was beyond better than our tasting "Thank You" to the entire kitchen staff. I just wish I had requested "WELL DONE" steak it was so pink most guest left it on their plate which was a big waste of money.
The (3) additional stars I wish I could have gave.
The contract did not benefit us nor was items taken into consideration. The contract had deadlines/confirmation/agreements that were not met on their end and they were not even compassionate or professional in regards to making things right. A service charge was added to version (1) then changed when we made an updated which became version (2)when we revised our final version (3) the rate change but the service charge was never changed. When asked about it I was redirected and the charge was never corrected. So I ended up being charge the wrong amount.
Payments 1&2 were done by me on time. Payment 3 was pulled without my authorization. Per the contract it was not to be pulled until we finalized our count. I contacted them through the portal prior to the payment due date to finalize and discuss no response was made. I contacted them once the payment was drafted no changes were made. We didn't get the change to alter our count and we were still in compliance per the contract. I was told to box up any food that was left over.
So the morning of my wedding the count was based on the number I wanted to give them not what I was charged for. I wasn't greeted by the owner/wedding coordinator which was so hurtful! My last walk through experience left me in tears b/c I had made plans per the normal then was yelled at in front of guest that were setting up for a wedding. I even asked the guest did they mind prior to me walking in. So on my wedding day imagine my team preparing for the day of b/c you can't decorate or practice in the same space unless you pay extra to book out the restaurant. The wedding coordinator was given a tour to a bride.
If you are planning to utilize this space bring extra cleaning supplies the floor was extremely sticky. We had to do some cleaning prior to setting up. The lady that work the morning shift was helping in making sure we had what we need.
Also keep in mind the space with tables and chairs will take up majority of the space. So just b/c it states will serve 300 guest it will be extremely tight b/c you have to factor in room for cake, dj, and floor to dance. If you do a flip please be prepared for your tables to be threw to the side (in plain site for your guest to see). I guest putting them in the happy hour space until the wedding was over was not an option.
I'm very disappointed in the customer service and the way I was treated never in my life would I have imagined this type of experience for the price we paid to have our wedding...
Read moreI'll start off by saying this place used to be great. We had come here a few years ago and the food was amazing. We were looking forward to returning because of the food and atmosphere. Some of the old highlights were broiled scallops, ahi tuna, crab dip, and some of the best/ most unique hush puppies we've ever had with kernels of corn inside. The ambience and clientele were beach fancy. Sadly all that remains of that experience is gone. Everything we had eaten a few years ago was cut from the current, extremely limited menu which now only consists of burgers, a chicken sandwich, a shrimp sandwich and a crab broil which others have already described as disappointingly limited for an outrageous price. Menu Sides included fries, cole slaw, red potatoes, corn, and broccoli. Kids menu only had three options, fried shrimp, chicken tenders?, and grilled cheese, so good luck to everyone being fussy eaters. Apps included spicy shrimp, pickle fries and maybe 1-2 other items. Overall underwhelming menu compared to every other bar or restaurant on the island or surrounding area. Similar but less food to the pirate bar around the corner.
When we enquired about crab dip and hush puppy apps we were told that there was a new owner, he changed the menu, and he can't figure out how to remove the old menu online. We probably should have left at that point...
We still gave it a shot, drinks were good but we were never offered a second. We were only given once cup of water for a table of five. Once we realized the food we were craving no longer existed we went with the basics on the menu, which in retrospect I'm glad we did because none of it was worth staying.
Food was just fine outside of not getting ketchup for fries and the sandwiches not having any condiments on them... Who wants a dry chicken or shrimp sandwich? Kids enjoyed their fried shrimp until they started throwing up 3 hours later, so that's my current situation while writing this review.
The most aggravating part (prior to the vomit) was having to ask our server, Leah, for ketchup, she never returned, and then having to ask both of her colleagues for mayo and ketchup after waiting at least 10 minutes. At no point were they even at a quarter capacity, each waiter handing 2 tables max at a time. The staff didn't even bother to remove the chairs from on top of most of the tables. This was in stark contrast to our last visit where there was a wait to be seated.
This location is and can be amazing, but clearly ownership have mismanaged both their menu and their staff. Looking forward to it being sold again, hopefully to someone who knows what...
Read moreReview of event planning Services. Not the Restaurant.
Disclaimer: We did not have our wedding with Ocean's Edge. This review is a reflection of our experience with their communication and pre-booking.
My fiance and I are not from NC but love Topsail Island and were planning a wedding in the Surf City area. We had initially talked to and met with Emily, the wedding coordinator's assistant. Emily was very responsive to all our questions. While on vacation in NC we stopped by the restaurant to try the food and met with Emily in person. The food and service were great on that visit. Unfortunately here's where things get sour...
A short while after our visit and initial conversations, I began trying to contact someone at Ocean's Edge to reserve our day. I emailed and called for about two weeks with no response whatsoever. I then sent a message on Facebook and finally got a response that ended in a call with the wedding coordinator herself - Jeahn who told me to email again with my questions and she'd get back to me.
I sent another email and once again weeks went by with no response, even after texting her asking for a follow up. I called the restaurant's main number again and spoke to the owner and explained my experience trying to reserve a day. He apologized, said that Jeahn would be leaving the company that fall, and promised to have her follow up. He also informed me that the day and loft space we were interested in booking were not usually available to reserve more than a few months in advance. However, he agreed to save our date for us since we'd had such a rough time getting things going.
After all his hassle I was finally able to get some back and forth conversations going with Jeahn in which she answered many of our questions and gave us a quote. However there were still a few occasions where I had to re-send emails after waiting a week of no response. Ultimately we decided not to use Ocean's Edge for our event - no one has bothered following up since sending us the quote to hear our...
