Trying Freddy’s steakhouse in Hammond, IN after Gordan Ramsay worked his magic 🪄 Was it good ? Yes but was it worth $400 ? No… The service: 8/10 everyone was really nice but they were a bit unorganized. Food: the calamari was good 8/10, the portion was just too small in my opinion and it lacked a good presentation. The steaks were good, I absolutely loved the chimichurri but overall it wasn’t anything that was mind blowing… I could def go to Texas Roadhouse and get a similar meal that tastes just as good for a better price. @Gordon Ramsay #foodie #foodtiktok #foodtok #foodreview #freddyssteakhouse #hammondindiana #nwifood #gordanramsay #kitchennightmares

Seemed like a nice place. The servers were nice and the management were nice. The steaks were cooked perfect. The lobsters were overcooked. The flavor was there, but tasted like rubber. Very hard to chew and harder to cut than my steak. I declined having it remade. They offered to take it off of the bill. Still overcharged. 3 people, appetizer- calamari $12, one chicken something dinner, two meals of filet mignon and lobster, only listed on menu as market price (current mkt price $27lb for lobster and their menu stated 8oz filet mignon is $39). Although a lobster tail is not a pound, I will still figure they charged us the full pound price. Drinks were two sodas and a glenlivet scotch (12 year was all they had) and decided to get three pieces of cake to go. Bill was $287 Yes I tipped over 20% Dont know what I was thinking. So it would end up being (rounding up to be fair)... $12 appetizer $66 meal one $66 meal two $25 meal three $?? Sodas (1 tea, 1 soda)- no price, their beers are between $4 and $7, so lets say $10? Each? So $20 $?? One Scotch couldn't be more than $25 Total= $214 that would mean each sliver of thawed out cake would have to be $24 and change each for $73! But no, their slices of cake are $6.95 so lets round it to $7 That only gets us to $190...without drinks. So 2 sodas and a mid scotch is nearly $100? If so, that gets us to $287...but they were supposed to take off the lobsters (or even one as my daughter said she would eat hers even tough and gummy). And mkt price is by the pound so if they charged a full pound, it should still have only been $260... So if they took off even one lobster, that means they charged about $125 for the scotch, the tea, and the soda. Skipping all of that, the atmosphere: They unfortunately sat us within 6 ft of the DJ for the night and we could not hear half of our conversation over his loud music and his off key singing when he sang. Even when I went to the bathroom, it still boomed across like a jukebox at a dive bar. The looks of the place reminds one of a dive bar on one ide too. The side they sat us on reminded me of a respectable looking steakhouse from the 80's. So I figure it had established itself. So to sum up: Pros: Nice atmosphere if you want a loud dive bar (or seated far away on the other side) Steak cooked perfectly! Staff very friendly, even when rushed. Manager very nice and apologetic for the error (and it does happen, maybe it was a one off mistake) Cons: Like I said, I can understand the overcooked lobster mistake and they did offer to make me another or taie it off of my bill, so they were willing to work to make me happy, so I am not counting that against them. The atmosphere could be better, but again, left me give them the benefit of being a dive bar on one side and a reataraunt on the other. So one a drinking weekend, maybe not the best choice for a quiet fine dining experience. Blame that on me for not knowing. Of course they could have set the DJ away from the door to the fine dining room so he could blast the drinkers and not the diners. All of everything so far could be excused by events/ bad timing/ one off mistake/ poor spatial awareness. But the reason I will not be going back (sadly because amazing filet mignon!) is their inexplicable mystery charges that do not add up. So if you do go, pick a quiet night with no DJ, dont order seafood, and WATCH YOUR BILL!

An Old School Classic !! While on Business in the Hammond area last year I was looking for a 'new' place to eat. The front desk at the Marriot Residence Inn in Hammond recommended Freddies to me. From what I was told it was a two in one, a local favourite and a throwback classic Steakhouse. When I was getting close to Freddies, I noticed it was in a sort of industrial area, and the building on the outside looked a little sketchy. When I entered, I felt like I went back a few decades in time. Freddies is a remnant of the old school steakhouses that you find in most cities. I was greeted warmly and sat fairly quickly, even though I did not have a reservation. My server who was a great gal greeted me with a smile, went over the features and told me that Lake Perch was a local favourite in Northern Indiana and that it was a feature that night. Now, It is not the first time that I've gone to a steakhouse and ate something else, so I was game. The meals served at Freddies, at least mine that night came with a sort of ice cold vegetable salad, with a side of veggie dip. The veggies were fresh, crisp and very high quality. As an appetizer, I ordered a cup of Seafood Chowder, which surprisingly didn't look that appealing, but it was very very good. When my entree came it was very simple in the presentation, lightly battered fingers of perch, but what more can you do to present the dish? I switched to a nice white wine and went to town on those delicious bad boys. I was impressed with the quality and freshness of the fish. it reminded me of catching perch in Ontario and eating them right on the shore. The decor inside is a relic of the past, the staff are older elegant people and the crowd is a good mix of older and younger people. I most certainly will visit Freddie's again and hopefully try their steak next time.

After visiting Freddy’s for a friends birthday dinner, I have several complaints about my experience. FIRST of ALL, we were impolitely told to return to the party room since the bartender was overwhelmed with our simple orders at the bar. We obliged and went to sit in room where we were told that 3 servers would tend to our needs. Only two ever showed. If the party was too large, and since I was not the host so I can not confirm this statement, and you knew you couldn’t handle the additional patrons, you should have informed us that you couldn’t accommodate us and we would have never stayed. Secondly, no one pushed or called anyone names besides complaining of the slow and subpar service (which is name calling, it’s stating facts). Also, are you referring to the dollar tree balloon weights as table settings? Because that was the only thing on the table beside the pile of rolled up cutlery. Lastly, if she paid the deposit, one would assume that the card used was kept on file. A request for a new card was never mentioned until after the police were called. We never received a bill prior to the police being called. I literally had just received my room temperature salmon, almost 3 hours after my arrival, when the police walked in. We never even had the chance to pay. At no time was a request for payment made. We looked up mid meal and saw the police, as if to say, “we just fed them, now let’s call the police before they get the chance to run out on the bill”. This is ridiculous! At any given time, anyone at the table could have handled this tab, which was not even expensive considering everyone there was working or retired professionals with lucrative income. We all felt extremely insulted and do not doubt that this was all racially driven. This transaction required no support from law enforcement whatsoever. It was a case of discrimination, prejudice, and racism, plain and simple, and you can’t convince me other wise. Oh, and by the way, the card declined due to a fraud alert placed in it for a large purchase from an unknown establishment, not for lack of funds. Black people have money, please understand that if you don’t understand anything else. Lastly, what you should be doing is trying to find a way to right your wrongs. The extremely slow service with no apologies from management, cold food, improperly made beverages, and overall attitude of your manager is what you need to focus on now. Then and only then will you not be considered a trash establishment with...

BEWARE This place smells like an old, smoked-out, mildew, OLD vegas casino! Torn seat cushions, paper table cloths and paper menus! Smh! We drove in from another state and had it not been a birthday that we were celebrating and the birthday person themselves who reserved this, I would've NEVER gotten out of my car.. Just by the outside appearance! We arrived late, due to traffic, so everyone was eating already.. I had already made up my mind that I would only have dessert and a drink, as I didn't trust this "steakhouse" to cook and handle my food properly.. It was a total of 10 of us including 3 toddlers. I asked everyone how was the food and they all were underwhelmed and packed MAJORITY of their food in to-go boxes. Our party recommended the bread that all restaurants give and the hostess of our party asked the waiter for another roll of bread so that we (2 adults) could try it. He was very abrasive and didn't seem so happy to serve us, although the mandatory tip was going to be almost $60.. He brought the bread and I ordered a slice of cake and a drink.. I didn't drink my soft drink because he brought it with the straw already in it and the paper removed. Smh! Why would I want to drink from a straw that you touched all over and placed in my drink?! We asked for separate bills and was denied, "Due to our LARGE party!" How ridiculous! We got the bill and to our surprise the table bread that we(2 adults) ate was on there! Never have I ever had to pay for the bread! The waiter "explained" that we(2 adults) didn't order entrees, so we have to pay for the bread we consumed.. What type of nonsense is that! Treating us like a separate table that came in and ONLY wanted bread was an insult, but when it came to the bill he wouldn't separate us and we couldn't pay like a separate table.. He didn't tell the other part of our party about any upcharges, although it was things he recommended, so there was confusion and issues with that.. Lastly, they only allow ONE card per table! Isn't that something people should know BEFORE being placed on ONE bill, as some folks, like myself, are avid credit card users! It was a hassle.. I paid for my portion(bread and drink too) and would never patron this business again! I don't understand the positive reviews... The smell of this place alone makes it a 1star!.. Smh! $500...
