My husband and I have been eating here for years. We have bragged about the food and service from beginning to checkout. On Sunday Aug 25 we decided to take our family total of 8 people to have breakfast.. Immediately as I walked in I was shocked to see no waiting, no sign in and wait 30 mintues on a weekend. I was completely shocked. This is unusal for Sophia's but I considered it a blessing. We were seated and it took a few before our waitress came over. But she did and she was very polite. I had never seen her before so I knew she was a new employee.. As I looked around I noticed all new faces including the older gentlemen at the register. Well we ordered our food, and waited, and waited over 30 minutes. Mind you no one was waiting to be seated..I was stunned even on the busiest days we have never waited so long for our food.. Eventually our food starts coming out slowly, one dish for you, waiting on this dish, waiting on pancakes, etc. I orderd my favorite Chop Steak, eggs, pancakes steak was to be cooked medium.. Immediately when she brought my plate I was stunned.. The steak was extremely small, it was on top of my eggs, it was raw, my eggs had busted and the beef juice was all over the eggs.. I could not believe my eyes, the carelessness of the presentation. You never put the steak on the same plate. Let alone on top of the eggs. I was not satisfied my steak was raw. I told her I'm sorry but this is all wrong.. So she went to the manager when she came back she said well I can put that steak back on the grill and cook it some more or we can cook a new one which will take more time. I said please can I have a new one.. Meanwhile my family has some of there food, pancakes are missing. Finally my dish comes back now the steak is burned completely. Thats it I'm done. She says what's wrong. It's burnt.. She tells the manager, she comes back and says well he said we can take it off the bill but I have to take the whole breakfast plate back..Wow. Ok. So sad to trash the whole thing. So I sat there waiting for my family to get done.. I decided to ask our waitress how long she's been working there. 3 months she says.. I look at her and say everyone is new here correct. Yes she says everyone was sent to the new restaurant in Schererville.. I knew it something was off.. I shared with her We have never had bad service like this. She stated everyone is complaining, it's really bad.. Wow not her fault.. Mind you she had about 6 six tables alone. So this explains the decrease in customers, the difference in the food and presentation, and the response from the manager on duty.. As I was paying my tab not a cheap one.. The gentlemen was extremely rude, did not speak a word to me. No thank you, was everything ok, nothing.. That has never happened before.. People were coming in to return their take out orders. There was another on the phone complaining of their order... So bottom line Sophia's opens a new restaurant in Schererville Great.. Not so great for Highland location you take the best cook and wait staff to Schererville and replace them with new, maybe not so experienced cooks, management, etc. It's obvious it's affecting business.. Bring back the cooks that had Sophia's packed with people waiting patiently for 30 minutes because it was worth it.. Not anymore. BAD MANAGEMENT DECISION..No fault to...
Read moreMy fiance and I usually love to come to Sophie's and have a great meal especially the one in Schererville, but we will not be returning, because yesterday 11/14/2020, We decided to call in an order for pick up, because the place was jam packed, everyone sitting closely together, no one social distancing, like if a pandemic isn't even going on at the moment. Anyway, We ordered an omelette dinner with pancakes and fries instead of hash, a steak dinner, banana foster french toast, a bowl of soup, and an extra stack of pancakes. When we went to pay and pick up our order, we went back to the car and checked our order as we always do when we order anywhere. We found that it was wrong, of course! We got tater tots instead of the fries that I asked for. Mind you, all dinners come with your choice of 2 pancakes or toast. We both were not given our side of pancakes, and I originally thought that the toppings for the french toast was not in the bag. So once we went back inside with our order to have it fixed, the lady handling our food should have had on gloves, while taking our food in and out of the bag, but she didn't. After our order was fixed and was reassured that the toppings for the french toast was already in the bag, we arrived home to sit and eat, just to find that I ordered a BOWL of soup and I received a CUP of soup, but paid for a bowl. And what's worst of all, is that my fiance fixed up his banana foster fresh toast to eat, just to find that there was a whole RUBBER BAND in his french toast toppings. Why in the world would a rubber band be in the toppings of a french toast order?? Why are loose rubber bands or anything of that sort in or around the kitchen, cooking and prep areas anyway?? How disgusting and unprofessional is that? That is HAZARDOUS, he could have swallowed or choked on that rubber band. They are obviously not following the proper protocols nor sanitation that is required in a kitchen setting. We will definitely not be returning to Sophie's and we most definitely will be making a report to the Health Department. I advise you not to go here, unless you want random, inedible objects...
Read moreMy family and I patronized this establishment only to be told not to return after sending my food back. I ordered a Veggie Skillet however after tasting a little bit of it I found it to be very bland. I asked the waitress if she could add a slice of cheese or something to it, and she replied yes. After tasting just a little bit more of it I found it to be very bland, and I informed my waitress that I didn’t like the taste of it and that I wanted it to be removed from bill. The waitress informed me that she would have to speak to the manager (owner). After speaking with the owner she informed me that he said I would have to pay for it since I had eaten most of it (which was a lie). Upon leaving I informed the owner that I didn’t feel like I should pay for something that wasn’t up to par. He argued with me, and eventually told me to leave and not to return to his establishment. How rude and disrespectful to act in an aggressive manner because a customer didn’t like the food. I informed another person (who said that he too was the owner) that I felt some type of way and if I were white would I had received such harsh treatment. It was at that time that I informed the owner that I was an attorney and that his business partner needs to watch how he treats his customers. This guy apologized and said he wanted me to return to make things right. I’ll never return to such an establishment who doesn’t value a customer who has patronized this establishment for over 15 years. After leaving I had an African American woman approach me due to overhearing the conversation and said her family had the same experience with the same guy several years ago. She only started patronizing the place once again after she saw that he was gone…surprised to see that he had return. My skillet is below you can see that it was barely touched. My advice to the owners…get rid of the old guy he definitely has an issue with minorities…and the race card isn’t being played as you had the audacity to utter these words out...
