Ichiban Japanese Cuisine — Restaurant in Northfield

The overall rating you see now for Ichiban was built with love by the previous owners who have likely since retired. Back when Osaka in the Hamilton Mall was good and especially back when Ichiban was first established five years ago- we had a wonderful gem in the area for amazing sushi. The new owners seem friendly enough but the quality of the food and preparation are nowhere near what you were able to find here. Sushi burritos have been continued but it lacks texture, garnish and flavor. Trying the spider roll, soft shell crab + salmon sushi burrito, everything just seemed less than half-baked and had a strong resemblance of garbled leftover fish. If all you're craving is a California roll, they sell that here.

I really dislike giving poor reviews to local shops and restaurants but those expecting what used to be, will only be disappointed. The restaurant that sits here has built a popularity that already has a customer base. If the owners continue to serve whatever it is that they're serving now, they'll push away the momentum that was built for them. Until then, other restaurants serving sushi nearby will remain as...

Love this place! The food is fantastic and the people are always very nice. If the lady is a little grouchy on an off day, she doesn’t mean anything by it, she’s just pretty much to the point because they get really really busy LOL. But their food is always really fresh and delicious. The sushi is incredible because the rice is always perfect and the seaweed just melts in your mouth. The chicken teriyaki is really good, and the sushi burritos are definitely something you have to experience. Not to mention the prices, they are unbeatable! UPDATE 2 (2023): Ok so I jumped the gun with my last update, which I wrote right after the change in ownership. Now, they have the fantastic softshell crab burrito again, and it is delicious. I have had it twice in the last month. so all is once again right with the world, as long as you don't read or listen to any news.
