Disappointed...
I've been coming here for many years, and I usually order the Zarzuela de Mariscos (Spanish seafood soup). I'm pretty sure that they only just started adding cilantro to it, and in past years it didn't contain cilantro. Cilantro wasn't mentioned in the description on the menu, and I just checked the top 3 recipes for it online and none of them had cilantro listed as an ingredient. (I think it's traditionally supposed to be parsley, if anything.) Also, the waitress didn't ask about food allergies.
Anyway, this time the soup had a whole bunch of cilantro in it, which I can't eat. I told the waitress this, and she just said "oh, sorry" and walked away.
I started picking the cilantro out of the soup, which was just useless. Eventually I asked her if the kitchen could at least bring me new cilantro-free broth that I could transfer the seafood into. She brought the broth, which didn't have the onions and tomatoes needed for flavor, so it wasn't the same as the cilantro broth. I proceeded to spend 20 minutes carefully transferring the seafood to the new broth.
I really think the waitress could've handled this better. She didn't offer to replace it, get me something else, or do anything about it at all.
I don't think this was my fault, given that the dish doesn't normally have cilantro and it wasn't mentioned in the menu description. It would have been different if I had been warned about the cilantro.
I guess some chefs think they're doing everyone a favor when they suddenly decide to start randomly adding cilantro to dishes that don't usually have it one day on a whim when what they're really doing is adding soap flavor to a lot of people's dish.
She also didn't offer to get us any to-go containers when we obviously had a lot of food left over and needed them. However, she did provide four large lemon wedges for my water, which I really appreciated.
So I would say that if you're looking for great service, maybe don't expect to...
Read morePrevious visits to Mojitos have been pleasant, but the substandard service we received on our last visit has caused me to re-evaluate my opinion.
The server assigned to our table seemed completely disinterested in us. No eye contact, inaudible mumbling when placing our order. One of my wife's tapas arrived, and then we waiting at least 15 minutes while we watched our waiter play with his phone in the back and socialize with his co-workers. Some effort to coordinate our entrees would have been appreciated. I watched my wife finish her food, and then after our server finally decided to check with the kitchen, lo and behold the rest of the food arrived. "Careful, hot plate," I was warned. No, it wasn't because it was easily sitting back there for ten minutes or more.
Anyway, one of my tapas plates was incorrect (steak skewer instead of chicken)--but the waiter never came back for a customary check on how are food was. The mojito I ordered barely had any alcohol in it either--which was strange because in my past visits they had been fairly strong. I would have loved to address this with the server, but again he was nowhere to be found.
Despite the lackluster service, we contemplated dessert--but figured it would take us at least another half hour to get out of there between waiting for the server to take our order, deliver to food and finally help us settle the check.
The food was amazing as usual, but unfortunately having a really bad waiter has turned me off of this place. Hopefully people won't get stuck with this guy as we did and have a better...
Read moreWe came on a Saturday night at 7pm and it was busy but the two of us we were still seated in less than 15 minutes. Our server did not like checking on us and on 3 occasions we had to ask another server to bring us some water.
The guacamole with plantain chips was delicious. The plantains are sliced thinly, fried perfectly and paired sooo well with the guacamole.
Caesar salad was delicious and we got some sort of sweet peppers on top of ours that added a new depth of flavor to the salad. I've never had cassava and their cassava croutons were a nice touch to the salad and tasted great.
The meatballs were seasoned perfect and had such a great taste. The wine tomato sauce was not the best and lacked much tomato flavor instead it was over salted and seemed watered down.
The bad was the Italian flat bread. This flat bread lacked flavor and just wasn't worth the price. It looked so good but was such a disappointment. For $15 I expected so much more.
The banana bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream was not great. The vanilla bean ice cream was delicious and sooooo good. The banana bread lacked banana flavor and instead just tasted like sugary bread. This was not worth it.
We left and our bill came to $61. Maybe there are better things on the menu we could have tried for $61 but this trip didn't seem worth it. Maybe we'll be back. If I coukd I'd give...
