Food has always been a hit or miss and kind of sub par for the prices.
My family and I have always spent a lot of money with this business. Going in person is your best bet for a meal. When you do go, the owners are nice and so is the staff. It's clean and atmosphere is what youd expect of a jersey diner. Dessert is also always hit or miss sometimes the cakes are pretty dry. In person is a good experience but they almost always mess up take out orders and this last time was the last straw.
I'm giving 3 stars to be fair because many times in the past they have corrected issues the best they can especially the young man who I believe is the owner or the manager at least. But also giving 3 stars because of repetitive issues. And why keep going back? Well because it's the one spot in the town you can get a bit more of a diverse menu and I like supporting local businesses and what really kept me hanging in was the fact that while people are not perfect at least this staff would be kind and try to correct the issues.
This last time though? They messed up my take out order again as usual, and when I called to have it corrected, the man that claimed to be the manager ( maybe he's new?) Really started arguing back and forth with me. And I told him sir do you see how many hundreds of dollars we spend monthly with you guys? You're really going to argue over correcting one meal ? and he basically said yea that's all I can do is just credit you the money for the side order not the whole meal. I didn't want my money back I just wanted my food so I could eat dinner with my family.
Also they really need to hire a delivery driver like they used to. I get cutting costs but these door dash drivers are total trash they throw your food on the porch or worse go into your bag. After a previous incident they are always willing to staple your bag closed at least but I did stop buying drinks like shakes and stuff because of it. A bad delivery experience even though it's with door dash makes the whole situation worse.
In any event I told him never mind I can't do this anymore and you guys have officially lost my family's business.
I guess he went through our order histories and saw it is true how much we spend because AN HOUR LATER he calls back to see if I finally want my order corrected. That was an extra slap in the face. You made me go back and forth with you, tried to blame me the whole time saying I didn't put my order in right, made my support for this business feel worthless, hung up and then wait an hourrr to do the right thing??? Too late buddy I already called another local business and ordered myself a different dinner.
Good luck to these owners and the part of the staff who cares but there is definitely way too much room for...
Read moreNorthdale Diner sits on the side of the road like a steel mirage—an aluminum-plated ark for the damned and the starving, gleaming with the greasy promise of salvation. Five stars, no question. I’ve eaten in a hundred diners from here to the belly of Nevada, and this one—this chrome-lined time capsule in Alpine, New Jersey—has it.
The eggs are perfect. I don’t mean fancy—I mean right. Sunny-side, scrambled, hard and fast with no questions asked. The kind of eggs that don’t apologize. Toast buttered to the edge, home fries with the scorch marks of a short-order prophet, and coffee blacker than a Senate subcommittee hearing. It keeps coming, hot and refilled with the silent precision of a caffeine ninja.
The menu is a manifesto. Burgers, pancakes, pastrami, meatloaf—it reads like the last rites of American cuisine, and the kitchen delivers every page like gospel. No trendy nonsense, no kale smoothies, just real food made by real people in a place that hasn’t sold its soul to touchscreen kiosks and corporate menus.
The crowd is a cross-section of reality—cops, contractors, families, and the occasional stray lunatic (present company included). The waitstaff? Battle-hardened, fast, and unfazed by anything short of a grease fire. You want extra bacon? Done. You want to rant about politics while housing a pork roll sandwich at 8 a.m.? They’ll pour the coffee and nod politely.
Northdale Diner isn’t just a meal—it’s America, still breathing, still sizzling on a flat-top grill in northern Jersey. Go. Order something with sausage. Leave full, wired, and slightly more optimistic...
Read moreOn my wedding anniversary, my husband and I came to Northvale Diner for casual date/dinner. First of all, we waited around 1 hour before our meal arrived. While we were waiting, we didn't even get bread to start. We had to ask for some bread and the waiter is like, "you want bread?"as if It was an option. But when i finally got my chicken Waldorf salad, the chicken was dry, there was absolutely no dressing. It is not the same salad i used to come here for and this thing cost 17 dollars. So I asked for more dressing. The waiter gave me pink dressing that looked like cough syrup.yuck. and taste was bad. While eating chicken, I found a black strand of hair. Omg. I had to ask the waiter to take that dish away. He asked if I want another dish, I said no, I cannot wait another hour for stupid salad to arrive. It's the last time I'm ever coming to once my favorite diner. Staff here are so unpleasant and not friendly at all. Bad staff and bad food. Totally ruined my wedding anniversary. It took around 20min for them to give us the...
