I used to go there a lot but I have quit. I usually go out on Sunday in the early evening when it is really not that busy. You would think being seated at a table in a nearly empty dining room wouldn’t be an issue. At Norton Applebee’s, it apparently is a major issue. When you’re dining alone, they act like they get mad because you don’t want to be stuck in the loud bar up on a stool.
I guess single people aren’t supposed to have a normal comfortable dining experience. Once, I asked a hostess why it was such a problem, and was referred to as “people like you”, but never got an explanation about the seating. Really? People like me? So if you’re single, you’re another species, ethnicity, or something, I suppose.
The last time, which was the final time for me, was August 25. I went through the dreaded hassle of getting a normal seat. Then, my waiter took my drink order and just never came back. He was on the floor, waiting on everyone else, including the table right beside mine, but just couldn’t find the energy to bring a glass of water to my table. During this 40 minute period of waiting, I wasn’t able to order an entree.
Finally, I got someone else’s attention, ordered a drink, a refill and an entree and explained if I could just at least get that, I wouldn’t even need wait staff. This person was very nice and apologetic but at the point, I was very frustrated and entirely fed up with this establishment altogether. My patience with Applebee’s ran out at this point.
I tip good everywhere I go, never less than $5, but my guess is, the waiter who was originally assigned to my table knew that it was just me, not drinking alcohol and assumed I was going to follow some 10% tipping rule off a $15-$20 receipt and only tip him a dollar or two. I think he had this theory and I just wasn’t worth his time. He was giving the table beside mine exceptional service and attention. He wouldn’t even look at me. He would just walk off and go to another table.
I can’t deal with the stress that comes with visiting this establishment anymore. It isn’t worth the hassle for mediocre food. They discriminate if you are single and dine solo. If you are a couple or a family, you receive good quality service. I was treated completely different before, when I dined as a couple. If I ever do have a craving for something on an Applebee’s menu, I will drive to TN. I try to spend local when I can, but as far as I am concerned, there is no longer an Applebee’s in this area. It will be worth the drive to not have someone make me feel an inch tall because I am dining alone and actually receive...
Read moreThe waiter wasn't familiar with the menu items everything I inquired about he was unable to provide an answer had to keep running back and forth to manager to try and get answers for me .. I am allergic to shrimp but wanted to order the bourbon chicken which I could only order if I took it with the shrimp well duh I just informed you I am allergic to shrimp I only wanted the chicken which was not offered by itself on the menu so I asked if I could substitute the shrimp for something else available on the menu the manager came to table only to inform me that i could not substitute the shrimp . WELL as if that wasn't enough I decided to order the bourbon sirloin instead on the menu written in english above the steak it stated that all meals below came with your choice of two sides unless otherwise noted the bourbon sirloin stated it came with red potatoes but did not read only read potatoes not eligible with two sides so the manager was called to table again to inform me although it did not say bourbon sirloin with red potatoes only not eligible with the two sides as I pointed out she began to try and argue with me about it so I just said whatever and ordered the steak with salad and mashed potatoes. The manager was very rude and unwilling to try and accommodate me the customer who was allergic to shrimp to order the meal the way I wanted ended up costing my friend and I $63.58 I was offered nothing to make up for all the problems that evolved with a simple request due to an allergy... I WILL NOT EAT THERE AGAIN AND DEFINITELY WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO FAMILY OR FRIENDS APPLEBEES IN WISE VA SUCKS CONGRATULATIONS FOR OFFERING THE WORST SERVICE IN WISE VA ALONG WITH RUDE AND...
Read morePleasant, enjoyable lunch! My partner and I met a friend for lunch. This was my first visit to this Applebee's location. Actually, I haven't visited an Applebee's in several years, so I was anxious to check this location out. The service was excellent! Our server, Tanner, did an excellent job serving and provided efficient, friendly service during our lunch. The restaurant facility and dining room was very clean and well maintained. The men's restroom very clean, too. Although I would recommend replacing the worn dining room carpeting, it is in poor condition. In addition to the regular menu, Applebee's has a nice lunch menu, offering many different options to fit any appetite and budget. They even have a "pick two" section if you care for lite meal options. All of us ordered the chicken tenders meal which is served with fries. The day we visited, Applebee's was out of fries, so we substituted onion rings. All three of us enjoyed the chicken tenders and would certainly order again. The portions were large. However, in my opinion, the quality, freshness and preparation of the tenders could be better. In comparison to competitors (Chili's, Hardee's and Chick-fil-A) the chicken tenders were not up to par. The menu is very diverse and offers everything from pasta, chicken, steaks, burgers, salad and soups. They also have a full service bar for adult beverages. I was very pleased with the overall experience and look forward to returning to Applebee's to try more of the menu items. In an area dominated by fast food options, it is very nice to have a casual, relaxed, comfortable, full service dine-in restaurant in Norton. I highly recommend...
