I've really had to think about this review for several reasons. The staff was extremely friendly and it is a new restaurant. That being said, they are serving food that is very En Vogue right now in a crowded market so expectations are higher. The tacos are excellent, full stop. I have only tried their chicken and steak but I'm sure the others are just as tasty. The meat is seasoned well and the toppings are fresh. 3 for $7.99 is a decent deal and they are filling. They also offer burritos, taco bowl salads and quesadillas, along with breakfast all day and maybe a few other things. I had a chicken bowl salad, which was very underwhelming, and is what made this review hard to write The meat was great and they put pineapple in almost all their dishes which I love and think is an underused addition to food. (Yes, I love Hawaiian pizza). The rest of the salad was pedestrian and I feel like I could have made it at home. The chicken was put on top of shredded, iceberg or romaine lettuce, plain shredded mozzarella and some salsa and beans. They did have sauces that they brought to our table which were good and added decent flavor. It wasn't heavy, which was great, but it wasn't special at all. I would suggest mixed greens or, sigh, the now cool Kale to elevate or some peppers and onions? Maybe Cotijo or Queso Fresco in addition to the mozzarella? They need something, though. The guacamole was good and the chips were fine but would have been much better hot. They seemed old at room temperature. The desserts were very good. We had Flan and Tres Leches that are apparently homemade and in special, small containers; a good size that wasn't overly filling. They also have Churros but we didn't try them. The most perplexing part of Taco Tequila is that they don't serve any drinks, let alone alcohol, let alone Tequila. I don't know if they are planning on eventually serving alcohol but I would have liked a beer option. You can buy drinks from a cooler, including bottled water but, otherwise, no drink options. The interior is sparse but cute and they served their salad in a to-go box which I thought was kind of cool. Plastic silverware comes on the tables along with the napkins. To reiterate, the staff was great and you order and pay first and they bring it to your table. Taco Tequila is a good option for takeout and tacos and they do also have a taco truck. If you dine in, just know that it is stripped down and basic right now. Hopefully, it gains in popularity and they build upon that success because restaurants build the Norwalk community and it would seem to be a...
Read moreIf I were watching a movie that featured a tiny mom & pop taco place that all the locals knew was the best in town, it would look exactly like Taco Tequila.
Except this isn't a movie. It's very, very real.
When we stepped up to the counter, the owner immediately explained the menu and all the possibilities. When we asked about the veggie taco, he had an emotional reaction describing how good it is. He wasn't wrong. We ordered one of those, a couple pork tacos, a chorizo taco, and a steak taco. Two of the younger kids shared one of the giant burritos, and the other ate chips and guac for dinner. There was nothing left, and although I was full, I seriously contemplated getting something to go. I regret my decision not to.
One other detail you need to be aware of are the sauces. There's a green and a red, just like Valencia. And while I'm about to make the comparison, please note that the similarities end with the color and quality. The quality and expression of flavor in these sauces is outstanding. Both places have equally delicious, but very different takes on the condiments. And just like when I eat at Valencia, I was looking for an excuse to use the sauces at Taco Tequila.
Norwalk has won the taco lottery, and you can cash in at Taco Tequila.
Update: I moved to Canada, which is sorely lacking in the taco department. Norwalk, don't take this place for granted. You know not...
Read moreFirst time in the cantina, gotta say the decor is awesome. Sugar skulls around the place very rustic and and authentic feeling. We had a very friendly server by the name of Lucia and she took care of me and my wife and was very patient. We ordered the wings as an appetizer and the Lomo saltaldo for my wife and Chicken and steak fajitas for me. Wings are ok nothing too different than bar wings. Still good. Also had 1 birria taco just because lol, flavorful and delicious. The lomo and fajitas were the main star tho! Served on a sizzling cast iron and the lomo and the accompanying sides on cool plates. They also had these awesome sauces lined up that were all tasty! We ordered Coco margaritas and let me tell you, we had never seen or tasted one that was this delicious! Our server Lucia was making the drinks as well. Definitely a must order. For dessert churros because my wife was craving it. Wish it had a little more cinnamon sugar on it and dulce de leche instead of chocolate but I’m nit-picking at this point. Great music friendly people and lively atmosphere. Definitely coming for Taco...
