Valencia Luncheria — Restaurant in Norwalk

Really fantastic! First time here, learned about it on DDD. Arrived about 2PM Saturday and were told there would be about a 20-minute wait for a table for 2. A couple of seats opened up at the bar and we grabbed them for drinks and our meal. We both had a Valeria, with rum and coconut and some other things, which was delicious, and the toasted coconut mix on the rim of the glass would be a great dessert. My wife had a lovely sangria and I had a very nice margarita. You can definitely tell you've consumed an adult beverage, unlike some bars where you might think they brought you the kid-safe version.

We both ordered "The Works", which includes an empanada, an arepa, a little ceviche, a bit of fried plantains and a healthy portion of black beans and rice. So, black beans and rice, that's a healthy-ish thing to fill up part of a plate and part of a stomach, right? Not something you're going to have high expectations for? Be prepared to have your expectations blown away! Best beans and rice EVER!! Really great, tender ceviche. Tender, sweet plantains with perfect carmelization outside. Delicious empanadas in tender, flaky pastry with a tasty crisp outside. I had a chorizo and pepper, while my wife had a beef picadillo. Both were super flavorful and moist, and mine was saucy too. Arepas, again, delicate crisp on the outside, tender, almost cakelike inside, wonderful corn flavor. Mine was filled with pernil, a tender, juicy pork roast, and my wife had the Dominican with spinach, bacon and cheese, a great flavor combination.

The bartenders were friendly but not intrusive, and the service was speedy. I just wish it wasn't 40...

Bring my wife for the first time for lunch, good food and unfortunately very bad poor service, Cassandra our waitresses introduce herself, my wife said it is my first time here very excited, we were expecting suggestions like : what is good!!! so i have to ask how is it the ceviche? the answer it's ok, i was gonna order as an appetizer because we love seafood , i guess a person who work there it will say amazing it is shrimp with scallops bla bla bla... so your place lost a $16 dollars appetizer i was gonna order and i didn't, then she came back and we were undecided what else to order it was a lunch special blue plate roasted pork 1 side incluided and the extras for $ 0.50 cents each we said great we are going to try a lot of those, we ask her wich are the sides we can choose? she didn't know and then she were rushing us and tell us i have more tables to take care, like hurry up ordering,very irrespecful said that, she said i coming back, i haven't finished to order yet expecting get done my order when she is coming back, so i said there is 50 cents for an extra sides good, my wife and I decided to try all of them and she said oh sorry you can't i send it the order already, really!!!!!! your place lost another extra $10 dollars in 1 plate, good food the little we try, don't know if we want to come back, where it was the manager???? she bring the diet cokes we order when we were ending the meals and forgot to bring a plastic glass with ice, i have to ask another server for it. The manager seemed mad at us that the waitress told us to sit anywhere. She came over and we told her what the waitress said and she says “oh did she” very sarcastically as if we were lying. She then comes back to the table, which is a small table, and she has like a quart of some liquid with no top on it and pours it forcefully right towards me. I was literally drenched with this cleaning liquid within seconds. And I mean drenched. Half of the bottle came flying at me. I don’t know where she thought all that liquid was going to go. As I stated, it’s a small table and the liquid has no cap and a wide opening. I was in complete shock. I stand up and ask her what it is and she says a peroxide mix. I said is it going to stain and she says well yeah. I went to wash my entire dress in the sink and then me and my friend walked outside to try to dry off a bit. We were out there for a good 10 minutes where she never came out, nor did anybody to see if I was ok. My friend and I left and what was disappointing was that we were there to celebrate myself and another friend, who we were waiting on, birthdays. Well happy birthday to me. I will never return there. And I am outraged to find out that was the manager of the restaurant. She was mad and did it on purpose. Don’t ever go there and take it upon yourself to listen to the waitress when she says to pick any seat you want because you may just have cleaning liquid poured all over you.
