Maria's Italian Bakery — Restaurant in Novi

This past weekend we had a catered event with Maria's Italian Bakery for about 110 guests and I (we) cannot express in words how amazing everything was.

I did not personally get to eat the food due to my own dietary restrictions, but many people were complimenting the food and service without being asked about it. The buffet included spinach lasagna, roast beef, rolls, salad, and green beans. We even had some comments that the roast beef reminded people of what my Grandmother used to make.

With most buffet-style dinners there are problems with food overcooking, becoming dry, or getting cold -- from what I was told (and from what I could see) everything stayed fresh, warm, and tasty the entire time. Usually at least someone complains, but we could not find a single person with anything negative to say.

Update Feb 10, 2020: My Mother hosted another event recently and once again the experience was excellent.

Update: May 17, 2025: Another event and once again Maria's impressed every every single one of us as a catering service at Birthday party.

The staff is very friendly and fun.

The prices are very reasonable as well.

Will no longer be visiting this bakery. Today while stopping by there was many things wrong. Other half of the bottle of pop in the cooler we’re expired. Some over 90 days old past the expiration date. Then the older woman handled money and immediately touched baked goods with bare hands that she just handled money with. The same older woman was nasty with a new customer. The lady stated she was new to the area and asked what the bakery was known for. The older woman with a snotty attitude said “umm well our baked goods, homemade deli items and lasagna”. The woman proceeded to order to items. When she paid she was over charged and when she let the old woman know the older woman proceed to tell the customer she was wrong. The sign clearly stated $2.29 yet the older woman charged $2.99 and continued to argue with the customer about it. Another employee had to step in and tell the older woman to give the customer the difference back. Terrible business practices. Will not...

The customer service at Maria's is so bad that I cannot find a word for it. I ordered a pizza and 2 sandwiches 3 hours prior to pick up. When I arrived, the lady at the counter was too busy chatting with friends to wait on the other customers in the bakery. Eventually, another lady from the deli area came to help. But she could not find my pizza. She found my sandwiches though. After a third attempt, she located my pizza and came back out front. She asked me where my sandwiches were. I told her I am still waiting for them. She then realized that my sandwiches were given by the chatting lady to the previous customer. When I mentioned that I have been waiting for a long time with nothing in my hands, I was told that they get "slammed" during lunch time. So future customers be advised, 3 customers in the bakery at one time is slammed. I let the staff know that I will help with that problem. I will never go back to...
