Well this was my go to place until today. Walked in door and no one was on line. I Stood at counter for awhile as staff ignored me. Took the manager to whistle at the guy behind the counter for him to turn around. He was wearing head phones as well. He took one out of his ear and asked to take my order, and did not even greet me, almost like I was bothering him. I gave him my order and he missed it. So I said it again. He then went to start making it and came back to me to verify the type of bagel I wanted again. Then after making it. He asked me again what toppings I wanted. He said lettuce tomato and onion. So in digusted I just said yes. Then he finished and charged me. I noticed on my receipt that it had the sandwich and then 3 additional topping charges of .50 cents each. No where does it state toppings are additional. Especially basics ones such as lettuce, tomato and onion. So as I passed by the manager and asked him if this was correct he said "yeah toppings". I was just thrown off by this as I've never heard of paying this additional cost on top of a sandwich. Shouldnt that be built into price of sandwich if you really feel the need to charge for it? Again. I loved this place and previously had a 5 star review... Today was just to much for me to not say something...

I don't give 1 star reviews, but this comes close. Clearly understaffed, which is understable, but it took about 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge the line. (Ignoring people does not make them want to wait longer) The music was terrible... No rye bagels of any kind! Bizarre. I ordered a French toast bagel with butter, waited another 15 minutes to get it only to get hime to find that they use MARGARINE! It's horrible! I mean....how do you get a bagel with butter so wrong?! Simple. Use margarine! I feel like I'm either at a hospital cafeteria or a nursing home. Also, their "French toast" bagel is really just an egg bagel with cinnamon and powdered sugar on it. Shoprite has a better bagel and I think they have actual butter on sale.

I ordered The Ambassador sandwich which I was expecting to be the same as The Royal Ambassador sandwich, but unfortunately it wasn't. (Same ingredients but apparently one is hot and the other isn't, for some reason) That wasn't the problem, anyway. The bread was so stale that when I tried to take it off (to transfer the insides to my own bread) it broke into pieces. The bread was not from today, it was definitely from the day before or worse. Please, do not serve customers stale bread - people pay for quality food it would be appreciated to be served quality ingredients. I don't normally post bad reviews, but hopefully this makes the establishment aware of some QC issues so it doesn't keep happening.

I have visited this place many times sense the start of the school year in September of 2017. There is no debate about the food. It’s always delicious & fresh. As with many restaurants these days, it’s up to the customer if they want to choose to eat something healthy or not so healthy. (BGL offers both options). I’ve ordered several different items and I’ve not run into anything I haven’t liked. As for the wait times, they differ depending on the time of day. Even at the busiest times, I’ve never had to wait more then 10 mins MAX. I read a few reviews that said the staff was rude. I have never experienced this issue. It’s true you’re not going to get a fake smile, but you can expect to be treated fairly. Please keep in mind this place opens VERY early in the morning which means the staff is awake way before then preparing food for the morning rush. They serve so many people each day who all have their own issues. I have great respect for people who have to deal with the public all day. The place is always very clean. I’m actually headed there shortly to buy some lunch to bring my son who goes to school in Nutley & some breakfast for myself. I am not usually a breakfast person- but don’t go through life without trying a French Toast bagel. I have mine toasted with butter & maple syrup poured right on. Its AMAZING! Other times, I actually like their oatmeal. I’ve not had the coffee, so I can’t speak on that. I would recommend BGL to any of my friends...

I would honestly give this place 3.5 stars if I could but I can't. Full disclosure I didn't get any bagels so most can probably write off this review as irrelevant but for those who don't want bagels, hold on to your britches.

We ordered meat lovers omelette, western omelette, silver dollar pancakes and coffee. Omelettes were good nothing out of this world and needed salt but typical diner fare. Silver dollar pancakes, were very good as well. Coffee though was disgusting sorry guys but it was bad. I know this is not a coffee joint but good coffee is essential to a good breakfast.

Ok food aside the place looks great, decor was like an urban farmhouse (if that even makes sense) the place was open with a huge garage style door in the front which I imagine during the spring will be fantastic to eat there with the door up. Also they were playing a ton of 80s/90s freestyle music which had me dancing in my seat. Just get your coffee ratios right (16:1) and don't forget to salt your dishes and this place would be a 4-5 star review.

Service was friendly and overall I'm happy we tried this place. I compare it to a nicer Nutley diner in terms of food and in decor something that's a breathe of fresh air to the town. Just get your coffee right and maybe throw in healthier options for sides to omelettes (fruit, granola, etc) and you guys will be set. Thanks for expanding to Nutley and we will...
