I have to preface by saying I'm not usually a donut person, so not the best judge in the products in this VERY popular store especially evening time. My understanding at the Back Door after 7pm there's always long queue sometimes even an hour wait. Even with QR code convenience I'm not sure it's worth it to wait that long. Anyway came here first thing in the morning just before they open, got the benefit of immediately putting in order of their famous bigger than palm size Apple Fritter $7.95. Maple bacon $3.15 and an Old fashioned $2.25. Was told the fritter is being fried will take another 5 minutes. 20 minutes later it finally came out, in the meantime the queue was out of the door probably numbering almost 20 people. The verdict: Apple Fritter was indeed good (almost anything freshly fried got to be good, right?) but not heavenly good in my opinion. But what do I know? Maple Bacon was a good balance of sweet and savory, not bad. Old Fashioned was just like many others I had over the years. Price of course IMHO on MV is more than average. Service was friendly but overwhelmed by many visitors just like me who wants to sample the Island's finest.

This place took me back to my childhood days when you could buy the hostess donuts from the grocery store and they actually tasted like real donuts! We would put them in the toaster oven and eat them hot😋. Back door donuts has the best donuts ever. The buttermilk glazed cake and the raised honey dipped glazed were my favorites. My nieces loved the raised chocolate frosting donut. There was a line both nights (Friday and Saturday) that we went. Took us about 15 minutes to get through the line and another 5 minutes to have our warm donuts in hand😊. This is definitely a spot I would return to everytime I am on the island. The only thing I don't like is that the donuts are all served in paper bags. So for example, each chocolate frosted donut is in a separate bag due to the frosting. So that it doesn't get smushed. I had four paper bags for my order. I wish they had boxes for large orders.

It's a tourist trap novelty shop that seems to care less about service because they seem to not care about having repeat customers. The pastries and donuts are good, but the service is terrible and slow. Even after speaking with the manager on duty about her staff destroying my order yesterday by jamming a bunch of boston creme donuts in a little bag causing them to burst everywhere. No apology or refund. For my order today, this is what they did to resolve my concern: put boston creme donuts in an individual bag upsidedown and ruined another order. Here is a photo of one of them. I can say you just lost a customer, but I know the owner of this place doesn't seem to care. Invest in some pastry boxes for God's sake. You suck!

One of my favorite island traditions is lining up for a donut from Back Door Donuts after dinner. The donuts are fabulous, they are still warm when you get them! The party donut is my personal favorite, but they have so many options to choose from, make sure to try a few! BDD is also open during the day with the same menu (use the front door on post office square). We love Back Door Donuts so much that we served them as dessert at our wedding! Our guests loved them, they were the perfect dance floor dessert!
