Visited here for dinner a few days ago, and absolutely loved it. More details below, but first, a quick summary. Drinks are all excellent. Food is very well cooked and all worth what they charge. Some dishes feel a little held back by the dedication to vegan ingredients.
General thoughts: Service was very attentive; I drink a ton of water and almost never had an empty glass, despite the small cups here. Minor thing, but very important to me - the straws are waxed paper. They don't pollute like the plastic ones, and they don't stick to your lips and feel gross like the cheap paper ones. Super happy with these, please never change them.
A little more granular, dish by dish - starting with drinks: the Georgia On My Mind is my favorite drink here or anywhere on the island. It's very well balanced, and the pecan syrup gives it some delicious complexity. Will order this every time I come here. the Yankee Swap is also very good, with great ube flavor that is strong, but doesn't quite overpower the rest. the Careless Whisper wasn't our favorite. We thought it was good, but tasted a little too much like cough syrup. We think the IPA syrup's hoppiness was a little too much for the grapefruit.
For small plates: the asparagus flatbread was perfect. Cheese melted into the bread, which was very flaky. A little more arugula than we needed, but we all enjoyed this one. the dumplings were very good, though for the price they could have brought a few more of their friends. Flavor was excellent, but we felt the wraps didn't bind quite right without the egg - slight downside to the vegan cooking. the butternut soup was disappointing, even for someone who loves butternut. Was a little thin, could have used some cream to thicken and improve the flavor. Flavor was also a little one-dimensional, which we feel could be helped by adding just a little bit of red pepper or some other herbs.
Finally, on the mains - Chicken pot pie was unreservedly great. Not crazy special ingredients, just really well executed. Bigger portion than most of the things here, too, if that's of interest. Salmon Wellington was very good, well seasoned and delicious. Unique dish, worth a try for sure. Maybe could use a dab more sauce? Happy with this one, too.
Desserts we had were all worth it.
I'm pretty adamant this has been the best restaurant I've been to in Martha's Vineyard. Looking forward to see how they...
Read moreI don't often take the time to write reviews, but on this occasion, I felt it was an absolute must.
What a wonderful spot! My whole family (6 of us) stopped at Pawnee House for brunch on Sunday. The greeting was warm and the service excellent. A few highlights:
The Parfait which was outstanding the yogurt which we were told was locally sourced, coupled with some fresh fruit (I believe a roasted peach which was to die for) and some granola.
I had the Country Fried Steak Skillet ... absolutely delicious! It was cooked to perfection with a runny egg on top and some of the best breakfast potatoes I have ever had.
My daughter had the stuffed French Toast which was equally as good as the rest. Not too sweet, just right ... she nearly finished the entire plate!
My father had the breakfast sandwich. A twist on the traditional egg and cheese, which incorporated some subtle flavors and local cheese to make it a couple cuts above.
A few of us indulged in a brunch cocktail of which there were many to choose from and the wine list was top notch (I always have a keen eye on the wines by the glass options especially at brunch, I was pleasantly surprised).
Bottom line, this is a wonderful and welcomed new gem in Oak Bluffs. I cannot wait to get back for dinner and explore the wine and cocktail menu more.
Speaking with the owners, hearing the story that brought them back to their family roots on the Vineyard was reason enough to come and try this spot. The food, service and atmosphere leaves me excited to...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for dinner at the recommendation of our hosts from Jade House B&B and I'm so glad that they recommended this restaurant. We wanted to find a place for a nice dinner (quietly celebrating our wedding anniversary) but nothing overly fancy and this was legitimately perfect. The restaurant is cosy so definitely make a reservation to ensure a table! What was nice is that, despite the restaurant not being huge, it didn't feel cluttered or crowded, nor was it overly loud or noisy. You could sit and have a conversation with dinner without feeling rushed, or like you were shouting. AND THE FOOD!!! We honestly wanted to order everything on the menu (but couldn't). The beverage options were varied and delicious, and I really appreciated that there were multiple non-alcoholic options for cocktails. We ended up ordering the Salmon Wellington (incredible) and the Chicken Pot-Pie (truly the best pot pie I have ever eaten), and then finishing with the Lemon Tart and Strawberry Shortcake. I honestly could have just eaten the Shortcake and been happy (not really, but kind of!). Everything was delicious and perfectly portioned and I hope that the next time we visit, we can try more...
