Went to Eddie V’s for my boyfriend birthday and this is not the first time we have been there but it was absolutely nothing like our first experience when they were at the downtown Chicago location. We get seated and the waiter (Julio) introduced himself and he was amazing! He was very informative ,knew the menu in and out ,great personality, he was overall great! As we were sitting waiting on our drinks it was superbowl Sunday when we decided to go for dinner. So we decided to look at our phone for the score. Mind you the restaurant had a live band playing inside the restaurant, so the lady at the entrance desk decided to come over to our table and ask us could we turn our phone down which I knew she couldn’t hear our phone. There was another group of ladies and men sitting right beside us that were extremely loud, very very loud which to the point my boyfriend and I had to lean towards each other just to hear each other speak but we didn’t complain not one time on how loud and rude the other guest were. When the lady decided to address us and our phone my boyfriend became annoyed with why she decided to address us but not the other table who was extremely loud and im pretty sure other guest felt the same. My boyfriend goes to speak with the front desk and the lady informed him that they were actually surveillance us from the cameras which we didn’t understand why. I don’t normally at all based things off of race but in this case I felt like it was because why are you watching us on the cameras instead of watching the entire restaurant. I became uncomfortable and I wanted to leave. We were dress formally while others came in with gym shoes, jeans and ball caps when she specifically told me over the phone the dress attire and how strict they were with coming dress properly but others came in as they please but we didn’t complain. My boyfriend noticed how uncomfortable I was and I decide to get our food to go. We paid $236.00 for our food and he wanted to speak with a manager to get a clear understanding on why they were strictly watching us from the cameras. Another woman comes out and she was rude, showing pass aggression she was no help . My boyfriend became angry with how they were treating us as guest in their facility telling us how we should and shouldn’t not speak and our feelings we’re basically not valid. She couldn’t honestly tell us why she was watching us ,the black couple! Yes words were exchanged but thats only because this woman was condescending obnoxious and extremely rude. We never experienced such rude behavior at Eddie V’s when they were downtown but as soon as they moved to this location in Oakbrook its a different outcome. I dont care how good their food is I will never be back! We gotten no apologies they never addressed the issue or anything. Our money can go somewhere else where we are appreciated and welcomed! I dont recommend not one African American person to spend there hard earn money in a place where you will be strictly watched like your some type of criminal! I was disgusted disheartened disappointed and hurt and will never go back. It may or may not effect them and they may not care. About this review which of course they will deny this but like any other company its all about money they don’t care how they treat you as a human being. It saddens me where they can treat you and try to talk to you any type of way but soon as you speak up for yourself and express your feelings you are the aggressor or as they call blacks “ghetto” Shameful and...
Read moreIt was our first time, and my mother was on a mission to find a new place for NYE, we never made it to Eddie V's until now. Well, it was great. We got a table in the bar area. Lighting was great, I appreciate how they were able to keep the tv's they had in the bar area elevated enough so only people sitting at the bar could see. We were greeted and tended to by the lovely Cydney. I told her that I, after being 30+ years in the industry, appreciated her work ethic. I saw her polishing glasses with care. Not half ass to get the job done, but with care. Most important to me is service, which can make or break an experience regardless of the other major components, food, drinks, prices, atmosphere, etc.... she was pleasant, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond, making our experience even more special, and we got a few laughs in, too. Then we have Michael, the manager, he too was pleasant, he checked on us, we laughed over a few things, and he listened to some of our suggestions. I appreciate when management is hands-on and cares about your experience. Now there's the sommelier. Unfortunately, I forgot her name. I do remember the pearl necklace. Anyway, so, we had ordered a wonderful bottle of wine from Cydney, it was delicious. Unfortunately, that was the last one, so the sommelier comes to help us make another decision. Unfortunately, anything in our price range (under $60) was not appealing to me, and after that amazing wine, we were unfortunately having to disappoint our wine palate. Her and I came to a conclusion, or rather I did. The wine wasn't bad, but it wasn't even close to the one we previously ordered, but it had to do. She never came back to check on us, to see what we thought of the wine, especially since she knew it was not our first choice and I only chose that one because it was the only one in that price range I MIGHT like. Maybe a discount on another bottle that might've been slightly more could've been an option, anyway, she never came back to check. Now, the band, Milly (I think that's how her name is spelled, was wonderful. Easy to listen to, sultry and funky sound. They played a great music selection. That was such an added bonus. Now the food, it was good, the quality was great. I personally like really flavorful food which I know not to expect too much of at a steak and seafood restaurant, but quality is quality. My mother absolutely loved her lobster tacos, I loved my oysters. My cousin had lobster bisque, which tasted like lobster bisque. We shared a crabcake. It was a nice healthy portion, and it was moist. I added some of the horseradish and balsamic from my oysters. We had the lobster stuffed shrimp, which were delicious and scallops. They were good, but I could've used a little more flavor. We ended the night with a cocktail, they were great and the dessert (Thank you) was "sweet" we ate it all. We will be back. I wish I had...
Read moreThe visit was unplanned, actually just in the area and we were wearing jeans. Thought we were underdressed (which we were), but were greeted very friendly and seated immediately. The ambiance is amazing. Our waiter, I'm sure his name was Rylan or something close was spectacular. Friendly, professional, charismatic and memorized all of our names. Really familiar with everything on the menu and made sure that allergies were included. We were a bit picky when it came to what we wanted, not really in the menu, but everything that we said we wanted, he suggested items and then we'd go from there. I had the filet, kind of Oscar style, topped with a crab/asparagus mix and scallops. They were able to do a bacon wrapped filet for one friend and the African lobster tails and strip steak I believe for my other one. We ordered asparagus and scalloped potatoes (I think). Whatever the case... EVERY bite of everything was amazing. Or waiter suggested our cocktails and he was spot on with every one. I usually have the 24K but this time, honestly, I don't know what it was, but it was delicious. Rylan constantly made sure everything was perfect, still checking in with us individually by name. It was like we had come to his house for dinner. The dessert was absolutely mouthwatering. The Bananas Foster is always my favorite at Eddie V's, but the ice cream and cookies ( which I would've ever though to choose), were delicious. Eddie V's has ALWAYS been one of my favorite restaurants, but I hadn't been in some time because they closed the one in the Gold Coast of Chicago. I've been to the restaurant in Oak Brook that used to be there, (another favorite), but by far, you knocked them out of the park. We were there in a Friday night when everyone there was either dressed for a special occasion or wearing their best for their date. We had on jeans, t-shirts, and sweaters and were treated no different. Lastly, I'd like to say this, totally unrelated. We go a lot of places in the city (Chicago) and are welcomed with open arms, immediate service, and a lot of attention. That's because the people I travel with are top staff of the Chicago Fire Department and recognized immediately. In Oak Brook, nobody noticed that she was the Fire Commissioner and the top staff, and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend your restaurant as number 1 in Iak Brook, and our waiter... management material. He's the best. Thank you all for a...
