The Golden Bowl — Restaurant in Oak Park

We tried this place out and it was okay. We have been craving Detroit style egg foo young for over 10 years and we finally came back and found out that our favorite spot from years ago was closed and gone. So we got recommendations for a alternative.

So we ordered four things we ordered the beef egg foo young the pork egg for young almond chicken lemon chicken and fried rice pork fried rice. The egg foo young was okay but it didn't have enough flavor inside of it and was very bland. The almond chicken was overcooked in the fried rice was okay but the pork was very chewy.

Overall the quality of the food here was not very good it was just okay. They do give you a lot of it though. We have enough food yesterday to feed an army and the price is not that bad.

The restaurant is currently carry out only. The dining room is positioned just for waiting to get your food and get out. The area over there is a little sketchy I even saw someone hit someone else's car and then just leave without even notifying the police.

I'm no longer a fan of the golden bowl. I thought at one point they were okay, a little high on their prices but the food is alright (just something in the neighborhood). Never go there after 9pm! They rush the food and its never fresh. I am no longer going there because I recently discovered that they overcharge me every time I get takeout.Keep those itty bitty receipts they give you and check your statements, because they may not match up. Before I would throw out the receipts but that was before my account info would be sent to my phone and I quickly realized that they did not match up.I first noticed it was just two dollars, another it was only five and some change, but this time not only did they mess up my order completely but they overcharged me by seven dollars. I'm not one to get up and get dressed and go all the way to their restaurant for a few dollars. But this is really starting to be a repetitive issue and its sucks it doesn't go on my account until the next day. So I wouldn't know. Just want to give everyone a heads up that my family ate at Golden Bowl Oak park last night, and a member of my family is now exhibiting food poisoning symptoms. The family memeber had the beef chow fun.

I did call the restaurant to alert them, as you are supposed to do, and the response was “tell him to go to the doctor because no one else got sick from our food ever”.

As someone who works for a kitchen and has been through servsafe certifications many times, this is absolutely not the reply a responsible restaurant provides. I was not asking for a refund, or to be made whole, just simply alerting the restaurant in case they had other complaints or perhaps an ingredient in the dish wasn’t properly washed/stored. Restaurants are supposed to report any food poisoning complaints to the health department, whether they are “unfounded” or not.

I will be submitting a report to Oakland County, per regulatory authority guidelines. Foodborne illness can happen so easily no matter how hard a restaurant tries, however the response from Golden Bowl was...
