Food was fine but I had an "issue" with payment. After placing my order, the credit card machine lit up waiting for a card (like they all do) and it showed the tap to pay logo. I had my phone ready and as I was tapping my phone, the cashier said that Apple pay doesn't work. I laughed and said "are you sure about that because it just did" thinking that she was either joking or misinformed about technical problems that may have previously been fixed. She repeated that Apple pay doesn't work on their systems. By that time, just a few seconds after paying, I had an alert on my phone from my bank that my card had been charged, and even their register saw the card payment and completed the sale and printed the receipt, so clearly it was working fine. Instead of handing me the receipt and telling me the order number, the cashier said nothing else, took the receipt, and disappeared to the back of the restaurant for a few minutes and left me standing there wondering if she was coming back with my receipt and to tell me what my order number was so I could get the food I just paid for. It was so awkward that the cashier at the other register noticed something was wrong and asked if she could help. I explained what happened but there wasn't anything she could do. The cashier returned after a couple minutes and handed me the receipt and said they'd allow the payment "this time" but not to use Apple pay (tap to pay) in the future. When I asked what the problem was, she either didn't understand it herself or was trying not to say too much but she said enough that I figured out that management didn't want people to use cards because of the service charge they have to pay for each transaction. So basically management had instructed her to say the card machine was broken so they could trick customers into paying cash to save the typical 1.5 to 3% bank fee on credit card transactions (Not sure what their exact bank rate is for processing cards). This seems dishonest to me, so I'll gladly honor their management's request not to pay by card and won't pay them anything in the future. Instead, I'll go to other places that don't feel the need to lie to their customers just to save a few pennies. This has to be one of the weirdest experiences I've had at a fast(ish) food place. Normally you expect occasional issues with the service or food not up to standards but this is the first time in my multiple decades of eating that I've ever had someone tell me not to use a card for payment because management wants...
Read moreTWO YEARS LATER: If you know me, you know I am extremely hard on employees… I have very high expectations! So, when I give praise, it is EARNED! Friends and family and I walk into Freddy’s in Oak Ridge… we approach the register to order… the young man asks, “How can I help you?” One of our younger daughters says, “I’d like cheese fries with cheese.” Dude leans over on the counter and says, “Do you know what redundant means?” Daughter says, “No.” (in sass voice). Dude says, “When you say something twice; like, cheese fries with cheese!” ROFL!!!!! We all fall out laughing!!! Dude goes on to the rest of us, and it is a WONDERFUL experience!!!!
Okay, Dude is Jacob! Manager is Chandler. Store number is 6505 (I think). Jacob is the EXACT kind of employee you want at the register greeting customers! He was the PERFECT personality to have in that role!
To all business owners great and small… HIRE Jacobs!!!! He was AMAZING! Oh, and the food… it was good… no worries! With staff members like Jacob, your food isn’t as important!!!!! Just sayin’!!!
Sorry I didn’t get photos of Jacob and Chandler, but it was a great experience nonetheless!!! —————————————————————————- By now, you must know that I am extremely critical of restaurants and hotels, but I wish Google would allow me to give 10 stars for today’s review! Came to Freddy’s for lunch with my family, and that was great! The food, outstanding! However, our cashier (I guess that’s her title), Beth put everything else to shame — she was SUPERB! In fact, I’m pretty certain that Freddy’s would never go out of business if every single employee was just like her!!! LOVED IT! If you’ve not tried it already,...
Read moreI went to Freddy's for the 1st time ever May 4, 2019 around 4:00 in Oak Ridge, Tn. Several people had given great reviews, so I figured I'd give it a try. I heard more about the custards than anything, but I was hungry for dinner. I ordered 4 meals (for my family &) & the service was great, the atmosphere was great & the food was good. I was excited to taste the custard, so I went back to the counter to order. I was standing in a long slow line when another employee opened another register. She called me over & I gave my order of 4 custards. She gave me the total & when I went to pay for it, she said "I'm sorry, I'm actually not logged in to the register. You'll have to order in the other line. I'll make sure you're next." By this time 3 more people had entered the line I had left. I stood to the side instead of going to the back, and I didn't want to push myself up front. I was waiting for the employee to call me forward. The employee who waited on me spoke to the other one at the register & told him I was next. He left the register & walked to a booth of employees to say something to them & came back. When he got back, he did not wait on me, but continued with the others in line. I stood waiting for another 7 minutes before deciding to leave. IF I decide to give Freddy's another chance, it WILL NOT be this location! Poor...
