Edit as of 5/9/2021 - I left my previous review here so you can see how much I love this place, however I'm very disappointed after being here more than five times through the pandemic their service has dramatically dropped from before.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first couple times knowing that it's covid and everybody needs to work differently and safety is the utmost concern, but this last time there I can tell the things are not changing. We've had mistakes to our order almost every time and if you try to call them they never answer their phone. This past time they messed up my wife's tacos, forgot our side of rice and the meat was really fatty and terrible.
I also always call my order in ahead of time rather than going in and ordering it on the spot in an effort to keep socially distant in the last two times I've been there they've either forgotten my order completely or it's been very under quoted (Tell me it'll take 10 minutes, and it takes upwards of 25).
To be honest, with the service dropping is poorly as it has and the food quality not being what it used to be, I think I'll be pushing pause and coming to Taco libre off of 3rd Street for a while.
I really hope you guys can get back on track if you're one of my favorite taco places near me.
(Original review) Taco libre is probably the best place to get tacos on the east side. Is somebody who lives in Oakdale, there aren't a lot of food options out here and this is a refreshing change of pace for the normal run of the mill places that typically pop up here.
I usually get their street tacos and they are absolutely delicious. they also have a salsa bar on site with several salsas that are all great. I love the cucumber habanero salsa they have it's extremely hot so fair warning.
my wife typically gets the American tacos and really enjoys them.
We've tried their tres leches cake and churros with caramel sauce and both were delicious.
they also have several bottled Mexican drinks on site this we all love.

Read moreI woke yesterday thinking about the tacos and corn. It was a little after 10am and I was excited to get my cravings met. Went to your Woodbury location and it was dead like usual. I have been getting the birria tacos a large Horchata and a cup of corn. I've been on a kick for the last few months gett8ng this same 30 dollar meal a couple times a week When I say the restaurant is dead like usual is because it IS infact always very quiet I chaulk it up to being over priced and lack of personal contact. Each time I order I am forced to tip a certain amount or no tip at all Personally I prefer to tip but only a buck or 2 since it is only take out I order I've noticed when I tip the meat amount is more So I do tip the requested amount because I'm spending 27 dollars for 3 tacos a cup of corn and a large drink. I might as well tip the extra 3 bucks to ensure a fulfilling meal. WRONG. the tacos are smaller my cup of corn was maybe 5/8ths full and my horchata was thick and slimy. I am so disgusted I drink a bit of it The orange tag said the 28th. I'm not sure if the date means it was made on that date or expired on that date but as I dumped it out it was thick like curdled milk. Gross. I'm writing because I believe someone should know care and correct the issue. The small servings, lack of communication, and over pricing has driven me too away from being a...
Read moreTaco Libre serves up good, authentic food for a nice price. Tacos are a couple bucks. They have a gigantic gordita-like thing called The Machete which can easily serve 4 people. Tostadas, quesadillas, flan, Mexican beverages, and so on, are all plentiful and done right!
What I love most is that they don't stick to the Americanized versions of dishes. For example, you can get tripa (tripe), or lengua (tongue) as the filling to your tacos. If you order the street tacos you'll also get a braised onion bulb as a side - tender and sweet, and if you ask they'll even give you one that's got some good char on it, too.
Finally, the salsa bar is wonderful, with a few variations on traditional salsa. Plus a cucumber and onion salsa. Plus a chunky avocado and onion salsa - spicy but refreshing all at the same time!
I don't know about the ladies room, but the men's restroom helps you learn a little Spanish, too, with illustrations of items and the Spanish word beneath it. You never know when you'll need to say popcorn in Spanish!
I hit them up at least once a week since they opened, and there have been a couple weeks where I was there almost every day. And there are plenty of restaurants that are more convenient for me to get to, so I obviously like what they do.
If you like traditional Mexican street food, give Taco...
