T. M. in Oakdale, MN... Trying a new place to eat! It should be rated a negative number of stars. I ordered a junior orange chicken that I thought was supposed to come with rice or noodles. I was charged an extra buck just for noodles that were disgustingly drowning in garlic.... and I happen to be a garlic lover! I also ordered edamame and an egg roll both of which were ice cold. The egg roll was super tough as though it had sat out all day long. The orange chicken was as stiff as a board (it should be lightly crispy) and the insides were desiccated as if it really was a piece of wood (when it should be tender moist chicken). I could not even chew it. I could not even eat my nine plus dollar "junior plate" at all. My son ordered what is evidently their signature plate of chicken teriyaki. That I could eat. It's the only thing on the entire menu worth getting and It actually was warm, and the chicken moist...but his potstickers were ice cold, hard as a rock and super dried out. He wouldn't eat the potstickers either. There was no manager on duty. I don't think they live up to their advertising that everything is made to order or everything would have been fresh, hot, moist and ready to eat. We spent over 32 bucks on this??? It was a terrible waste of time, food, and money For that money we could have gone to a nice Chinese buffet with hot fresh foods where everyone is served in the order of arrival. You won't EVEN find that at Teriyaki Madness. I also know of two other tables besides mine who were leaving bad reviews. One lady was doing her review on her cellular before leaving her table. Her husband was not a real big guy but he didn't get enough food to eat because the portions of the large plate was skimpy. Even if there is a manager they have extremely poor planning skills. There were no bags for take outs or leftovers. They need to be reordered before they run out. We considered our left overs inedible trash from the start so the only thing we took with us was my son's left over main course since we had to go eat elsewhere. The take out person didn't pre-order online and came after those of us who were sitting down but got serviced very fast and before everyone else. I raised his hers ours and their kids. All of the dozen are now adults and many with families. All live in the area. We all compare notes on which restaurants have the best service and serve good food. Its a good thing T.M. asks for their "tip" up front when you pay because the service is extremely poor. Otherwise I doubt they'd get anything. I myself make it a habit to tip according to how service goes and the quality of food, so no pre-tipping ever. I have even been known to ask for the cook and tip them well with cash personally. I only tip after the meal. I think I should have gotten my money back. This fast food style restaurant is doomed to failure if they continue with horrid quality of foods and lousy service. I will never go back, and none of my family will patronize them. Too bad we decided to give them a try instead of going next door for awesome Mexican food like we originally planned to do. The owners of this T.M. restaurant are going to lose every dime they invested in this franchise I suspect if they don't do something fast to give better quality of food, good service and at least hire staff who know how to smile. One good signature plate is not going to make this restaurant worth anyone's while to go to. The fact you have had reviews complaining of excessively dried out chicken means absolutely nothing has changed since you 1st...
Read moreFirst time here, won't be coming back. There was no line and I was able to walk right up at 6pm on a Thursday. 1 other person waiting for food. Some commentary:
No kids menu. Whatever, no problem (though, after some reflection, sorta weird. I can't remember the last time, if ever, a place didn't have a kids menu). But the cashier told me to order a junior for my son, so I did. Looking back, a junior is about $1.20 less than a regular, and (not exaggerating) nearly half the food. The upgrade for noodles was also an extra dollar even though, again, you get less than half the noodles the $1 upgrade for a regular affords you. Maybe this is my fault for not consulting the menu prior to arrival or blindly listening to the cashier. I honestly feel a bit scammed that I paid $7.50 for a junior, and I could have added 80% more food for $1. I only realized this by calculating calorie counts on the menu board (and it becomes self evident when the bowls are handed to you) with all the time I had waiting because ....
It took 14 minutes from when I ordered to when I got my food. Again, only 1 person ahead of me waiting for food. Maybe I came in with panda Express or chipotle expectations, but 14 minutes is a long time to stand in an empty restaurant waiting to pick up fast food, especially while my toddler and wife waited in the car outside. If a 14 minute wait when no line and only 1 order ahead of me is normal, maybe there should be signs that say, "we're worth the wait to have fresh cooked food just for you!" It's not clear to me if the kitchen staff was just goofing around, or if my food was cooked to order and just very slow
Food was ok. Very salty. The teriyaki was very charred/blackened which I was ok with, but my son and wife were not fans. Maybe the menu item should read: blackened chicken teriyaki. I don't know, just not stay I was expecting. Also I said yes to vegetables (is it just me or weird the cashier asked if I wanted vegetables? Why wouldn't I want vegetables if it's part of the bowl??), But the vegetables were mostly cheap cabbage. I had two very small broccoli florets, and 1 zucchini/cucumber. The rest was mostly cabbage or nondescript vegetables.
All in all, it cost me $30 and 14 minutes to get 3 dinner bowls for my family that just tasted ok with cheap ingredients....
Read moreTerriyaki Madness offers an Asian menu served fresh, and made to order. Has a variety of sauces, with original flavors. The sauteed veggies taste amazing. Big servings. Great prices. Staff is friendly and will go out of their way to make sure your food is cooked the way you like it.
I tried the Chicken Katsu - it is a chicken breast that is breaded and deep fried. The chicken is soft and moist. The breading could use more spice or flavor. The chicken katsu did appeal to my kids like a chicken nugget style food. The katsu sauce tastes similar to steak sauce - it's a rich, bold flavor with notes of sweetness. Katsu sauce is a must try, and would work with steak or chicken entrees.
The noodles are soft and have a smoky taste. My kids had fun trying to eat the noodles as they slid off the chopsticks. The only improvement I would make is to use less oil on the noodles.
I tried the terriyaki chicken with sauce on the side. The chicken is tender and has a distinct smoky taste that brings back the best memories of summer, and outdoor BBQ. Every bite was perfection. The terriyaki sauce is rich and filling, a bit strong (a little goes a long way!).
The white rice was cooked well but a little dry. May need to mist with water when sitting on the steam table. Also tried the fried rice - you get a huge portion, and it's very filling. Could be a meal in itself.
Terriyaki Madness is deff a restaurant worth trying. Would appeal to families, singles, date night. Or anyone wanting a meal on the go. Has original flavors you won't find anywhere else. The sauteed veggies are exciting. Location is conveinant. Staff is welcoming.
Handicap Accessibility - no automatic door opener. Tables would accomodate wheelchair or walker. Wide aisles. Staff will bring food to your table or offer to help if needed. Menu has large print, bold font and is...
