Cold food, server was terrible.
I ordered a kids burger to go for my daughter after a hike. Waited 20 minutes outside and decided to come in to wait. A waiter with long hair and a bandana tells me I can't sit at the table, I'm puzzled at why he is trying to deny me service. I start asking him about my order, after he realizes I already ordered he says I can sit there - but it's puzzling why his first reaction is to try to kick me out rather than even ask if I wanted to order as a first reaction. Seems very strange for someone who is supposed to be a waiter.
When I do ask him how much longer would it take for my burger he tells me 30 minutes, and that my order is last on his queue. I already waited 20 minutes so I was shocked I was last in the queue. So I asked him if he was sure since I ordered so long ago, the water goes off saying 30 minutes is going to be pretty standard out here. I wasn't anticipating 50 minutes for a burger since my daughter was hungry so I left at that point to go find her some snacks from the general store.
Once I walked outside 3 minutes later the buzzer goes off. I go back in to get the burger and make a joke "that was a quick 30 minutes". The waiter just dead pans me and doubles down that he meant 30 minutes from the start, uh huh... Not sure how my order "last in queue" showed up right after he told me 30 minutes, just say you read the queue wrong.
By the way my daughter ate the burger right away but it was room temp and dry so not sure how it could have taken so long and still not be warm when we went to get it.
At least when we first ordered the bartender was nice. He put a cherry on top of the whipped cream for my daughter's hot chocolate to try to make it...
Read moreLost in the wilderness of Yosemite and craving a decent meal? Nestled within the food court in the Curry Village, Bar 1899 offers a welcome escape from typical cafeteria fare. While the menu is small - think burgers, tacos, wings, and some salads - it delivers big on taste, especially considering the limited options in the park.
Ordering is simple - head to the counter, place your order, and grab a number to display on your table. Despite the Friday night rush (it was packed around 8:30 pm!), service was fast and friendly.
I opted for the Sierra Smash burger, a two-patty masterpiece featuring caramelized onions, American cheese, and their signature 1899 sauce, all served with a side of fries. While the presentation was a bit on the messy side, the taste did not disappoint. The caramelized onions added a touch of sweetness, and the 1899 sauce was a clear winner - flavorful and tying everything together. However, the patty itself was a bit dry, and the bun could have been a bit warmer. I wouldn't recommend ordering a coke from here. You'll mostly get ice and no drink.
Minor shortcomings aside, Bar 1899 is a lifesaver for anyone seeking a burger upgrade in Yosemite. It's undeniably better than the neighboring Seven Tents cafeteria, offering tastier food and a more relaxed atmosphere, despite the crowds.
Overall, Bar 1899 earns a solid 3 stars. The friendly service, decent selection, and decent (though slightly messy) burger make it a great option for a casual meal in Yosemite. Just be prepared for a crowd, especially...
Read moreI was there with my husband and 2 kids (4 and 6 years) olds. We ordered shrimp tempura which was good. We also ordered kids smash burgers that came with fruit salad. The patty was very old and uncooked and the fruits were literally stale. The regular Coca Cola also tasted Wierd like metallic and sour.
First we tried the coke and told the waitress about the coke and their response was: this is what we have and if you want a better coke go else where and that this is not a 5 star hotel. Later kids were complaining about the food and we tasted it realizing the food was very bad. We left the food uneaten and went to the manager, this time I was not very polite and asked them to taste the food. The manager refused to taste it saying “what do you want me to do about it”? Very reckless and rude customer service for that nasty food. My kids had diarrhea within 3 hours after they had the food....
