i entered. seeing only an older gentleman at the counter. the place had no decor, no ambience still being renovated.

the following dialogs ensued. not exact words, a gist

me: "do you have dine in?" him: "we don't have Chinese food" me: "i mean, is there eating in?" him: "what do you want?" me: "Chicken plate" him: "do you want it to go or eat here?" me: "here"

later him: "what do you want to drink?" me: "water" he brings cup of ice and bottle of distilled water me: "are you charging me for this water?" him: implies yes me: "i'm not paying for bottled water"

he takes it away, brings a pitcher full of water with ice cubes. me: "are you bringing me Chicken Shawarma Plate?" him: "BBQ Chicken with rice" me thinking: huh? how can the order get screwed up? didn't say anything. waited to see what happens. heard noises in kitchen before. sounds like he's prepping the order in the kitchen too.

offerings: Mediterranean: primarily Iranian & Turkish (appetizers, kabobs, seafood, vegetarian, dessert), hamburger, pizza, italian, gyro, tacos, nachos, fries

eats: Chicken Barreh (23) Iranian version of Kabob grilled over charcoal with meat on a skewer with a side of salad. chicken pieces previously marinated with yogurt?, spices. literally melt in one's mouth, very tender. no accompanying dip. didn't need it. chicken definitely fresh, not frozen, very juicy. *tastes vastly better than the usual Afghan chicken kebab which has a green dipping sauce. -yummy roasted tomato. -a big plateful of tasty, fluffy. fresh basmatic rice -lettuce salad with creamy white sauce, tomatos, olives, white/red onio-fresh, deliz...

take outs: -menu in house slightly different from one posted online/at door. both don't state what each entrees has. i.e. some kabobs have salad. also doesn't mention Med. food is Iranian. dish name posted with no explaining. *menu needs to identify what comes with entree. -usual service protocols not utilized. could have lead to misunderstandings. -their big events are on weekends during big social gatherings with hundreds of people....weekdays are small change for them. *4.5 stars food is great. servicing/ordering awkward. glad it turned out well. more transparency needed so misunderstandings don't occur.

Anonymous N. Richmond, CA 162217 7/19/2022t could wait! It's already 8 o'clock "why the food isn't ready hours before that?" Didn't allow the pizza to be taken out to kids also. While serving slowly we needed food out fast & servers were yelling at the whole family who ever wanted to help to get the line moving. Passing at least less than 100 guest they run out of food just taking out 1 pan each every 30 Mins. How 300...

I haven’t tasted such amazing Yemeni food like this ever! With all honesty this has ranked in my top 10 good Arabic food restaurants. A gem encircled by closed businesses on Hegenburger Rd. Don’t let the area scare you away; it’s definitely worth it just lock your doors. The food was so flavorful that even my Ozempic couldn’t hold me back. The is about a 20-30 minute wait but good food takes time and you won’t be disappointed, at least I wasn’t. Since it was my first time there I let the server recommend the few dishes I ordered and unfortunately I didn’t ask for the names of these dishes to share them here but it was a lamb shank with rice and I also order the meat in a saucy bowl. Eat with the bread as your spoon and you’ll find yourself walking out full, satisfied, and possibly dressed in traditional Yemeni clothing (including the knife and belt) spitting Gat (chewing leaf) … ok maybe I’m over exaggerating the dress but in other words…. I’ll be back for sure!

I’m definitely going to consider order catering from them for my next family dinner event.

The only thing I would suggest to the restaurant is that they tidy up the place a little more. Small things like the bathroom toilet stall door has a broken lock in the men’s bathroom which resulting in a patron to lock the bathroom door while he handled his business leaving me stranded to wait for him to finish to wash off my sauce...

If you're looking for a unique and delicious dining experience, look no further than this Yemeni restaurant! From the moment you step through the door, you'll be transported to another world with the warm and inviting ambiance, complete with traditional Yemeni decor and friendly staff. Our host at Bab-Al-Yemen was Abdullah. He was gracious enough to offer on hour soup. The house special Hookah mix was one of the better sheeshas i have had!

The menu offers a variety of authentic Yemeni dishes, each bursting with bold and rich flavors. One of my personal favorites is the lamb haneeth, a slow-cooked and tender meat dish served with fragrant rice and flavorful sauce. The chicken mandi is another must-try, with perfectly spiced chicken that falls off the bone and a side of delicious vegetables.

What truly sets this restaurant apart is the ambience. Great vibes for a late evening hangout. The portions are generous, making it easy to share with friends and family.

Overall, I highly recommend this Yemeni restaurant to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply looking to try something new, you won't be...

I recently visited Bab Al-Yemen to enjoy some Yemeni cuisine, but unfortunately, my experience was tainted by an unpleasant incident. The food was actually quite good, especially the rice and grilled chicken, which were well-prepared and flavorful. The ambiance of the restaurant was also nice, although it could be improved in certain areas. However, I encountered an issue that made the overall experience uncomfortable. There was a large SUV parked in the handicap parking spot outside the restaurant, but it wasn’t displaying the required disabled placard. I pointed this out to a woman who seemed to be involved with the restaurant, and instead of addressing the issue, she began harassing me. Despite leaving the restaurant, she continued her aggressive behavior, which left me feeling upset. It’s unfortunate that what could have been a pleasant dining experience was overshadowed by this incident. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the situation, as I believe customers should feel safe and respected when they visit.

The Sinking Ship of Bab Al Yemen I hate that I even have to write this, but Bab Al Yemen has officially gone from one of my favorite spots to a complete disaster. I've been coming here for years, and this last visit was a joke. The customer service was straight-up rude—zero respect, zero effort. And the food? Absolutely not worth it. I paid $30 for a Khabsa and got three sad little chunks of meat. The Burmah meat was a rip-off, and the black seed bread looked and tasted like it was days old. To top it off, they served the meat on a filthy plate—just nasty. It feels like they’re trying to get slick with overcharging, hoping customers won’t notice. I found out the original management is gone, and wow, it shows. The new team clearly doesn’t care about quality, service, or customer experience. If you're thinking of eating here, don’t. Just don’t. Save your money, your stomach, and your sanity. Bab Al Yemen is officially dead, and the new management buried it with a smile.
