I've been to Pho Mekong several times now and without fail, they consistenty deliver on the pho experience that I crave. Their pho is always dependable and delicious with ample portions of meat and topings. I generally get their #10 Tai Gau. Their sides are quite delicious too. Their wings are usually served piping hot and are incredibly flavorful. This past visit I just tried Their shrimp cake and it was extremely rich and bursting with flavor. I'd definitely order them both again. Their spring rolls are nothing fancy but they're consistent. One of the best things on their menu is their fried porkchop. It's as thin as I've seen in other pho restaurants. It's savory, full flavored, and easily one of my favorite go tos on the menu.
This is all to say nothing of their kindness as people. They've always served me and my party with respect and kindness. Yes there might be a small language barrier but it makes no difference I'm usually able to order without issue. This past visit I took a lyft to the restaurant, on the way back Lyft was having server issues so I was waiting unusually long for a ride. The kind lady offered to call us a taxi and even offered us some tea and for us to wait inside even though they had closed for the night.
The atmosphere is humble, quiet, and straightforward. What it lacks in a wowing atmosphere it makes up with well prepared, highly gratifying food.
In the context of pho places this is definitely 5/5. Well worth the travel if you're in the...
Read moreDONT DO IT! I love pho and go out for some often with my boyfriend. Last time we went was back in January and being that this WAS my favorite pho place in Oakland we went at least once a week. The last time we went the host was outside smoking a cigarette and ran inside to greet us (I'm not being uppity, that should be a law to only smoke during breaks but they own this ish soooo....) zoom past we get or food which is different from its regular dark earthy look and was very light. We do eat but don't finish because something not right with this food. Next day my boyfriend goes to work and he calls not a hour later when I'm at target saying come get him he don't feel good. Why on the way there my stomach starts hurting, now I'm throwing upon the side of the road. DONT DO IT! Thinking back they are always cleaning which would be cool because I enjoy clean place but I think the reason is because of they're...
Read moreThis man dining in front of the restaurant told me staring at the menu, “don’t hesitate, this is as close as it gets to what it was like to eat back in Vietnam”. No joke, he was probably telling me the truth. Thank you, kind sir. As I always order bun bo hue first from every new Vietnamese place I visit, I did my ritual. This place was so far one of the best for its price and quality with its bun bo hue game. It had plenty of meats including the hocks and the broth was truly delicious without a hint of MSG. It wasn’t salty but so satisfyingly full of brothy flavor. Generous amount of veggies. Thank goodness I stopped by. They do good job frying their American style chicken wings, too, if that’s your thing. But yeah, amazing bun bo hue. After a miserable failure at Pho King with their bbh, I will be back here for my...
