We went here last summer, but figured I would write this review because it still haunts me to this day. I will preface, our waitress was great, we were seated quickly, but we wish the people sitting outside warned us before we went in…
Decided to try something new other than Ropewalk, Mackys, or De Lazy Lizard- our favorites. First- the place was empty during dinner hour, about 6:30, peak vacation week in July. We, family of 5, were excited to be seated so quickly. The moment we walked in, it reeked of like gross mop bleach. On the tables, seats, floors, everywhere. Didn't help that flies were swarming us. Honestly worse than Carusos. But we stayed optimistic, hungry and ready to order. We ordered a couple drinks, it was good. We decided to order an appetizer, queso and chips - chips not free btw (unheard of in a mexican restaurant!). Was not cheap. We got stale chips and a tiny little bowl of watery “queso.” We were so disappointed. But maybe the food will be better! We order our food. The prices on this menu were insane compared to other OC restaurants, so we told ourselves its a treat, the food will probably be large portions and taste amazing. After all, the reviews were good! 3.8 stars… Waiting..waiting.. Still waiting.. The restaurant is empty, mind you. What are we waiting for.? Thinking of just leaving at this point. Macky’s out the window is calling our names. But that would be rude. Eventually, .The food arrives. The horror on our faces. Tiny portions, no color on the food, decided to order an extra side of “mexican rice”, $4, sad tiny little bowl of HARD rice with like some paprika on it and called it “mexican rice”. We had never seen this before. Ordered the tacos, barely any chicken, cold tortilla, and filled with cold cabbage. That was it. Just tortilla with cabbage. Not even the kids were happy with their little 2 bites of quesadilla. We were thinking of getting a refund, barely ate any of it. Check came out to about $130? For 5 people. We wernet gonna be those people who dont tip, and she was nice. So added tip, more expensive. And on our check we see, 10% off your check if you leave us a 5 star review! We were tempted because we were so upset we just spent this much on crappy food that we could have spent at Ropewalk, but we didnt. Didnt want to ask for a refund- how embarrassing. Left with regret, and to this day, it haunts us every couple of months. Just wanted to warn you before you got fooled by the 5...
Read moreWe stayed in the condo that is attached to this restaurant so decided to eat here the first night due to timing and being just a few steps away. It definitely left something to be desired. We walked right in and got sat since it was a slow Thursday night. There were only a few tables take.
For starters, we did not receive any chips or salsa that you tend to expect at a Mexican restaurant. We bypassed that idea and thought they may just not serve them there, but as we were about to leave, the table that was just sat next to us was giving chips and salsa. Maybe they specifically asked for it, we weren’t sure. Overlooking that, I had the highest priced plate at the table, the combo fajitas. ($29) The steak was tender but had next to no seasoning or flavor. The shrimp was seasoned and tasted much better. However, the onions and peppers again had no seasoning. The “fixings” plate was decent (guacamole, sour cream, cheese, pico). And that’s it…for $29 you receive enough meat (4 shrimp and 3 thin steak strips) and fixings to make about 3-4(if you stretch it thin) fajitas. No sides. For 30 bucks, you should at least get seasoned meat and be given some rice and beans or something.
The other party members had a chicken and rice bowl and enchilada. I was told the bowl was ok and tasted good. No real complaints. The couple that got the enchiladas exclaimed that the sides they were given (rice and black beans) lacked flavor and seasoning.
All in all, expect to pay more than a typical Mexican restaurant (tourist tax), get less food than you’re used to, and it possibly not...
Read moreWe got there and my family of 6 was seated right away, which is promising anywhere I go because that normally sets the "tone" for how the meal is going to go. That is NOT how this went .. We got menus and the server said I'll give you a second to look over that and ran off.. we didn't see him again for almost 15 minutes. When he came back and asked what we wanted to drink, which we had no clue because he never said what they have NOR was there anything on the menu that showed drinks, other than alcohol. We ordered drinks, our appetizer and our food because we waited so long for him to come back. In the process he kept trying to run off without taking everyone's order.. I had to tell him twice that he didn't take other orders. So, so far I'm already annoyed. About 10ish minutes later the drinks came out as well as the appetizer which was a small bowl of guac. Definitely NOT WORTH the price they have it advertised for. To confirm it's mashed avacado with tomatos on top. I took one bite there was zero flavor and when I was working on the second bite of the same scoop I took there was a piece of hair. After that we told him to cancel our meal and we left. I wouldn't recommend. I have the atmosphere a 3 outta 5 because it has potential . I wish I would have read the reviews...
