I have stayed at the Edge several times over the years and have very fond memories of this place. So it only makes sense that I would want to stay there again when visiting OC MD. I made a reservation for myself, my husband, and my daughter. Only two of the rooms accomodate more than two guests (this I was informed of when I called prior to making my reservation and made it very clear one of the guests would be a child). When I made my reservation I neglected to put in my child as a guest. I called once more and spoke to the same person to inform them of my error. They stated they would fix the issue. Before we hung up I told the hotel clerk that my daughter was four (because every single hotel always asks the age of your child). He stated that she wouldn't be able to use the pool. I found this a bit confusing, but figured it was a safety issue. But he further elaborated that this is an "adult hotel" and that "we can't have kids yelling Mommy!" or pretty much just existing as a child. He said that other customers might complain and that "some people just find any reason to complain." I inquired why he was willing to make one customer unhappy to appease another hypothetical customer. He stated that they have many repeat customers that are "older." Well I'm 45 (I'd say that is older) and I'm a repeat customer so I am dumbfounded by this interaction.I asked him if he was telling me that my child was not welcome there and he responded with "that is what I'm telling you. I'm only telling you what the owners have told me. " I responded with "why didn't you tell me that when I originally called to inquire" and he stated that he did. In the end I canceled my reservation and he literally hung up on me. ||||Now I've stayed here before. I've never once even seen any other guests nor heard anything through the walls. And the whole idea that this is an "adults only" hotel is completely off base. All hotels have adult things happening in them. If this hotel is in fact adults only it would be prudent to state this on the website. To me this is a form of age discrimination. Now I'm sure the owners don't care that they've lost my business and I will never return or recommend this hotel to my friends and family in the future as they have so many repeat customers. But it is so much easier to keep and existing customer rather than to try and gain a new one. ||||Not to mention I am a first responder of which they offer a discount. Bravo, way to treat...
Read moreThis is very upsetting for me to have to write because my wife and I have been coming here religiously for the last 10 years. This was “our spot”! We look forward to coming here every year. The last 2 times we brought our kids and the most recent time , one of the facility workers, told us we couldn’t have kids on premise so we called and the old guy who answers the phone, was rude (as always) didn’t give a clear answer. He only stated the main guest has to be 21+ which was obviously the case. Since nowhere on their site says you cannot have kids and the old guy didn’t tell us we couldn’t either , we brought our kids back this summer for my wife’s 30th birthday. On the day of her birthday the house keeping crew saw our little daughter and said hello to her. Not even 5 minutes later the front desk called and said we cannot have kids there and have to leave and that they could find us a different room at a different hotel. I explained the situation to the woman and she said she’d have to talk to someone and call me back. She called me back 5 minutes later and said they will allow us to stay as long as the kids “behave” and remain “respectful” and if there are any noise complaints we’d have to leave. (Mind you we had already stayed the night prior with zero issues). Upon discussing this with my wife we decided to leave and go elsewhere because we didn’t want to worry every second whether or not we were going to get kicked out so we had to uproot and unpack on THE DAY OF MY WIFES BIRTHDAY! :( Again this is very sad because we used to love this place but unfortunately their unclear policies and poor communication really keep guests confused and uncomfortable. You can tell from other reviews that we aren’t the only ones with issues with kids. Not to mention the old guy at the front desk really needs to be replaced. The last time we came here the room we checked into had an AC issue and rather than handling it professionally his solution was for us to “drive back to NJ”. Horrible customer service. Thankfully I found one of the owners/operators info online and she handled it immediately and even admitted he’s had issues with other guests!! Safe to say we will not be back here ever again after spending over $15,000 over the...
Read moreFor the price paid, this stay was completely unacceptable. I’ve stayed at the Lighthouse Lightkeeper Queen Suite and the Bliss in the past and was impressed by the service and attention to detail. The Safari room, however, was a disappointment from start to finish. The door had a hole where a lock should have been. Rust stains showed in the recessed lighting. The shower had mold. The Keurig barely worked, producing only lukewarm coffee, we never recieved fresh complimentary breakfast other than what was in the mini refrigerator upon arrival and the creamer provided was expired. This is basic upkeep, and it wasn’t being done. Your reception out front are not very friendly. The lady who worked before was so sweet and inviting. If you arrived early she would kindly inform you that the room is not ready, but you're welcome to use the pool, sit in the parlor and we will call you when the room is ready. The two entitled ladies seated behind the front desk, grunted " you're room is not available until 4pm, give me your number and we'll text you when it's ready". Never to be heard from them again. They did not text us. Service was even worse. I called the front desk six times in less than an hour, each time being placed on hold for more than five minutes. When my partner finally walked over, staff were gathered outside laughing and socializing as if they were all on break. Turndown service, which used to be a highlight here, had to be specifically requested from housekeeping—something I’ve never had to ask for before. It's advertised as newly remodeled room, well you seriously need to fire your sub contractors and design team. The new vinyl flooring was installed poorly, with the first step buckling up already unsafe. Someone is going to get hurt if it isn’t fixed, mold in the shower, rust on the receeding lights, that glass table, be careful with placing items on it, it is not secured to the base of the table. Yes it has the best views and the quietness of it all, is what appealed to me in prior visits, but this newly remodeled room left very little to desire. Based on this experience, I seriously question...
