2019 Previously have given Sharky's a 5 star rating, however they removed a couple things from the menu that were our absolute favorites. Additionally, the service this time was less than what we've grown to expect. Could've been a new server or could've been a bad night, but we had to wait about 20 minutes before we ever got asked for our drink order. I definitely left disappointed. The food was still good and acceptable but not what I went for. 😭
2019 UPDATE: After the owners response, I went back to Sharky's and spoke with Connie. Maybe I misunderstood the owners response, or perhaps Connie misunderstood, either way the result didn't appease me. First the good, the food was great and Kassie was an excellent server. The bad? My takeaway from the owners response was that my meal and a guest would be their treat. It wasn't. I paid full price for everything. In addition, Connie didn't inquire to why I was disappointed from our first night at Sharky's. Basically the owners response meant nothing. To that degree, I've taken my 5 star initial review from 2018 to the recent 4 star down to a 3 star. Sure the food is good, but back up your words with action. Just extremely disappointed.
7/2020: Attempted to give Sharkey's one last go considering they were a favorite. I don't know if it was due to Covid, but the menu is even more limited now. Service was atrocious. The waitress acted bothered by having to refill a glass of water. It took 45 minutes to get a burger and a chicken sandwich and when I mentioned it, the reason was "well, we have a lot of take out orders to work on." I was tempted to leave, but I didn't, but I can guarantee you this: After the last 2 summers of horrible experiences and the menu continually becoming smaller and smaller, we will no longer visit. Taking it...
Read moreFor me, Sharky’s is the ideal location to visit at the start of a beach vacation; a place to gather up all the friends and family in your party and break bread together while you await your accommodation to be ready, or immediately after checking-in.
Considering that the restaurant is located right after crossing the Odell Williamson Bridge, Sharky’s is the ideal local landmark to know that you have arrived at Ocean Isle and, therefore, is the only place to fill your stomach before heading out to the sand. Over the last few years, this has become something of a tradition for my family: gathering to share a few beers and a bite to eat to ring in our arrival. Even the decor, littered with license plates from nearby islands and Caribbean destinations, creates an ambiguous beachy ambience that would have you believe that some sand, sea, and surf could place you anywhere in the world.
During my most recent visit, I had ordered the Shack Stack sandwich, complete with generous servings of shaved ham and turkey on sourdough bread. For the size of the portion and the friendly service that comes associated with it, it’s hard to find fault with the $14 price tag. Drinks are equally reasonably priced, with a pleasant range of beach-themed cocktails that are strong enough to entertain one or two and allow the sun’s heat to bring-on their effects.
One of the only downsides of the restaurant is the parking options are limited, and the lot itself is relatively small. Practically, this means that several cars find themselves contorting themselves to fit into spaces that are on the verge of being too small. However, this issue can be avoided if your stomach is bold enough to visit the restaurant outside...
Read moreThe grouper appetizer was delicious. But our waiter was obviously overwhelmed So receiving drink refills was next to impossible. We attempted waving him down To get his attention. Finally we just walked to the bar to receive our beverage. We understood that they were busy. However when I received my entree after eating a few bites, I picked up my garlic bread only to realize that My pasta had not been drained so there was standing water on my plate. Where the pasta had obviously not been drained thoroughly. The slice of garlic bread had been soaking the water up which throughly ruined it. I tried my best To make the best of it And not be a typical karen, unfortunately, it ruined the entirety of my meal. What I did taste that wasn't saturated with water was delicious. So I was very disappointed to say The least. I waited patiently for our waiter to ask if we needed anything else. After waiting what seemed like an eternity I found another waitress to address my issue. I decided after Waiting so long that everyone else was finished eating that I didn't want my meal replaced. Once our waiter finally reappeared To give us our check he was extremely rude. I was as polite as possible, I understand that it was an easy oversight and I was not holding anyone accountable Mistakes happen. Especially at a non seafood restaurant where Pasta is Not a main staple. I'm not sure if our waiter thought I was trying to receive a free meal, but I assure you I was looking forward to the Non cajun pasta. I hope that in the future that they treat their patrons more...
