you come to NJ you gotta' try a diner meal at least once right?? this one happened to be near our hotel in Eatontown, just down the road in Oakhurst. menu includes a huge selection of three meal a day diner traditions from breakfast through dessert. we were here for dinner and wanted comfort food. so we found the steaks and roasts section of the menu. and chose two diner classics, meatloaf and roast turkey dinner. our lovely, seasoned, Covid protected waitress brought water and we passed along our order. started with nice crispy side salads. all good there. entrees came with little delay and looked delicious at first glance. my meatloaf was prepared with a sweet glaze and covered in mushroom gravy with mashers and green beans as sides. meat portion was huge-3 large slices. unfortunately the meatloaf was overcooked-top really crispy. and under flavored. even the sweet glaze was very mild. without the gravy very boring. green beans cooked nicely with a bit of carrot. the mashed potatoes were terrific. just the right amount of creamy to firm-not runny at all. big star of the meal for both of us. the in house roasted turkey on my wife's plate, along with the gravy and the potatoes were all quite good. the unfortunate piece was-and we did not see this as listed on the menu-the stuffing is made from raisin bread! so it's got very sweet profile with cinnamon and such and did not-in our opinion-go well at all with a thanksgiving style turkey dinner. it was pushed to the side and left there, other may enjoy, we did not. chose to top of our meal sharing an apple crumb cake ala mode. also somewhat disappointing as it really was just a cobbler style dessert with a bit of a cakey crust. very gloppy and under flavored, not warmed very much and super hard ice cream. didn't use up a lot of calories eating that one. left full but disappointed. a decent...
Read moreA solid diner: Well managed, good food and friendly. Been a customer for years. One of the few diners that has a salad bar, a big plus for me. Huge selection, large servings and price range. Dinners are averaging $14-$18 now; But it includes a lot. Burgers, gyros, Rubin's wraps etc. start around $7 and go up to $12 depending. During the week they have lunch specials that are quite reasonably priced.
The good: I've always had good luck with their seafood; most notably their salmon dinners. Steaks and chops are always good as well. I often find their sides to be surprisingly good; just today I enjoyed an excellent side of spinish. Made with fresh garlic and herbs;,I wanted more.
Disappointments are; "asian" burger, meatloaf recipe could use a refresh. Soups are ok but could use some upgrading and less salt. Roast turkey and chicken are fine but nothing exceptional. The "baked" macaroni and cheese should be skipped. Taste like pasta with cheese sauce poured over it.
Management and ownership is always present. Very attentive. They always check in see how you're enjoying your meal. If I had a complaint; it would be that they occasionally they nickel and dime me. Charging me for the to go coffee, despite the fact that I had a meal paid for coffee with it. The staff often sneaks me a paper cup which is appreciated. When I have forgotten things there, they have always find and return whatever it is. Thank you.
The wait staff tends to be excellent. A diverse crew age-wise, which is appreciated. I find that the more experienced waitstaff often pays better attention to detail.
Congratulations on running such an excellent establishment. A tough and competitive business to be in. I'm am here most Fridays with several members of a nearby club that I belong to; It has become our...
Read moreThis place use to have great food. Over the past year the quality of the food has declined drastically, while the prices have soared way higher than other similar places in the area. Why are we paying more for less?!
Despite our last few unpleasant visits, we decided to give this place one more shot since it’s closest to us (within walking distance) We immediately regretted it and will not return.
The other day we ordered food for pick up, it was coming out of the kitchen when we arrived and we are right around the corner so I expected a delicious, hot meal when I got home.
I had ordered a gyro with fries. It was beyond embarrassing for a Greek diner. Meat was cold, iceberg lettuce was all the yellow core of the head and inedible, the tomato was cut in huge chunks and barely any tzatziki sauce served with it. Fries served with both meals were cold and dried out. It looked like they were reheated several times and dark brown. The gyro was almost $19!! My friends meal was also inedible. We do not like to send food back or complain, but will not be wasting our hard earned money...
