This review is not based on the food. This is my first time visiting this restaurant. I walk in and the whole restaurant is blocked off. No courtesy for disabled. I couldn't eat there, which was my plan, I had to wait for my food outside. When ordering a guy behind "Hannibal Lecter" amount of acrylic keeps not pushing the intercom at the right moments so I can't understand what he's saying. I keep having to ask "what?" -infuriating! I'm outside and hear a slight noise. I chance up to see a shadow inside that looks like the guy trying to get my attention. Not sure so I get up and go in. I'm told to walk to the other side of the store where a shower curtain in front of a table is rigged as the "pick-up" are. These people look terrified. Get a grip! If your scared wear a mask but stop making it a problem for the rest of us who don't live in fear. This behavior also is an attempt to terrify those that are easily influenced (children and elderly). Just stop the madness. I have other options for Chinese food. I...
Read moreThe guy at the window couldn’t speak English- or so I thought. I ordered 2 dishes, and then asked if there was a dish with sugar snap peas- he added another dish, totaling $43:00. I told him I wanted 2 dishes and just wanted to add the peas to my dish. He then added another dish, totaling $53:00. I then asked him what did I order, and I couldn’t understand him. So, i excluded one dish, ordered the three, hoping it would be delicious. I ordered the house special beef-( which was thinly sliced , and as stated, is crispy fried -burnt- ), is oily and tasted okay, I guess. Beef with broccoli, which was good. And the house special chow mien. No sugar snap peas anywhere. It took me 3-4 minutes of asking, getting the run around and finally capitulated to my order. $42:48. I am not pleased. Next time, I’ll probably return to my old “go to” place in Escondido, Dragon Express on East Valley Pkwy, and get more food for my money. This place is way overpriced and it’s not worth the money. Rather drive from Oceanside...
Read moreThis is the first time I got bad food here. I ordered 2 lunches to go. I had my favorite sweet and sour pork. It was edible but the pork had a very strange aftertaste and the white rice was dry - what my mother would have called cardboard rice. The other meal was moo goo gai pan and my friend had asked if fried rice could be substituted for the white rice. But instead of getting fried rice the cook gave her white rice drenched in soy sauce. That was really bizarre! And the chicken in her meal was shriveled and very unappetizing.
I checked the reviews after seeing the food and the recent ones seemed to be as many good as bad. Several reviews mentioned that the Great Wok has a new owner. I really hope that our bad meals were just a fluke. In a couple months I will give it one more try and hope that the food is as good as it has been...
