Kotija Taco Shop — Restaurant in Oceanside

Been in So Cal all my life. I love Mexican food. I love Mexican inspired cuisine. And I love "dive" mex. Dive Mexican food might have a bad connotation, but let me be clear. This is simply the type of Mexican food cooked by Mexican chefs, generally in a tiny kitchen, and usually in a small space.

This place has a decor of all yellow walls. It plays music you'd hear if you were in Mexico. It's in a strip mall area. There is nothing fancy about it. So if you need fancy, you probably shouldn't come.

The food is where they shine. Their burritos are enormous and amazing. The carnitas are the best I've had (crispy, flavor, amazing). Their tameles are solid. Big Tacos are big and tasty. Pretty much, pick a meat, and it can go in a taco or burrito (including lengua if you dig that). They have both the (imo cruddy) style of guacamole with sour cream in it and mexican guacamole (so ask for that if you want the good stuff).

Food is good best times to eat here are during the day if you come at night they will mess up your order but when the owner is there in the day they won't mess it up. You are also better off buying a soda at Grocery Outlet while they are making your food because their drinks are super expensive and on top of that they charge you $2.00 for a refill on a large and a $1.25 for a medium refill thats just flat...
