El Salto Falls — Local services in Carlsbad

I am a Habitat Manager with the San Diego Habitat Conservancy (SDHC) and we manage the Quarry Creek Preserve, which includes the El Salto Falls area. This is a private preserve (not for public use) and SDHC is the long-term manager responsible for protecting the sensitive biological resources and species that inhabit this site.

This year we have been experiencing an especially high volume of trespassing in this area, and as a result, we have had to focus our efforts on cleaning trash and graffiti. Trespassing not only impedes our management duties from other parts of the preserve, but also threatens the longevity of the ecosystem as it creates issues with water quality, wildlife and vegetation disturbance, and erosion. Additionally, this area is a sacred site for the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, and trespasser activities continue to violate the sanctity of this site. We kindly request that the El Salto Falls location be removed from Google in order to help conserve the value of this habitat for the wildlife and plant species that rely on this resources in this area. So sad I remember when the quarry was active . We thought it was so cool when they would use tnt out there and break up all the.large.rock. I remember at one time we walked down from tanglewood and went fishing in the old catfish pond . Caught a few nice cats and just put them back . To bad it gets trashed by all these scum bags out and about . Even then when we went fishing down there at that time it was closed to the public but the would turn a blind eye to us ,as we weren't being malicious and tearing stuff down . We've always heard of this place so we decided to go yesterday. We parked by the houses on luiseno street. We walked about a minute to get to the falls. Its located right under the kohl's sign. It is a little bit of a challenge to get there. It's small but worth a visit if you're local. They're working on making a trail here but it is unfinished at the moment.
