Visited Footbridge a week ago so updating my review below from a year ago. Everything I said before (see below is still true in terms of the quality of the food) HOWEVER Footbridge has really JACKED THEIR PRICES (way beyond any conceivable measure of inflation) which is very disappointing so I am lowering my former 5 star review to 2 stars. The fried clams were delicious as always but there are fewer on the plate and they now sit on a bed of french fries to make them look like a large portion. And the REGULAR sized lobster roll which is still delicious and quite full of lobster now clocks in at $33! Mind you this place is a hole in the wall with no seating or service so the price seems very out of line. While everyone is claiming inflation here it seems here it's just price gouging. When we went to buy raw lobsters to take home from the Kennebunkport fish market they were still priced at about $10 a pound for a 1 1/4 pound, same as a year ago so not sure how Footbridge can justify jacking the price (about 35% more per lobster roll from last year) so much other than just taking advantage of people. (They also eliminated the jumbo lobster roll which had to be the best on the planet). As an example of the gouging they even jacked the prices of their cans of coke to $3.50. Come on. Coke has not gone up almost 50% in price from last year. With a recession coming hopefully next summer they will bring their prices back down to more fair levels.
2021 Review. A great place if you love lobster rolls and fried clams like I do. Been coming to Maine for three decades and have tried many places. The food here is right there with those at the top like Redâs (although Redâs makes such a big deal) in Wiscasset. Actually fried clams here are better than Reds and the lobster roll is just perfect. Not overcooked, not from a prepacked plastic bag like many lobster rolls in Maine are, moist, served at the right temperature (not freezing cold and dried out like some lobster rolls) and plenty of lobster which just a little mayo or warm butter as you prefer. Order four lobster rolls and open the box in front of your spouse and two best friends and watch their eyes pop at the chunks of lobster overflowing in the rolls. Fried clams are delicious too. Not sandy, not chewy - just tender sweet , whole belly clams in a slightly crunchy, batter cooked to golden perfection (not burnt or in âold oilâ like some other places). The fried scallops which few write about are also delicious here. Even my son who took a pass on the fish and had a double cheeseburger said it was great! All they need now is to sell the perfect slice of Maine wild blueberry pie. Woman at the counter...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Footbridge Lobster today, and it was an unforgettable experience! The service was incredibly quick and friendly, setting a welcoming tone right from the start. We indulged in their clam chowder first, which was richly creamy and expertly seasoned with a subtle hint of baconâevery spoonful was packed with tender clams and bursting with flavor.
For the main event, I chose the warm lobster roll, and I must say, it lived up to its reputation as the finest on the Maine coast. The lobster was cooked to perfectionâsoft, juicy, and luxuriously buttered, nestled within a crisp, golden bun. The balance of flavors was simply impeccable, and there was not a hint of chewiness in the succulent tail, claw, or knuckle meat.
I came with my friend, and we are from Thailand. We have been traveling around Maine for the last three days, sampling lobster at various restaurants, and we both agree that this was the best lobster experience of our trip. What set Footbridge Lobster apart was the thoughtful attention to detailâlike pre-cracking the lobster for easy access to the meat, and providing a small bucket for discarded shells, which made the dining process so much easier and enjoyable. The service was excellent, suggesting a family-owned vibe, though I'm not sure about that; either way, the team worked harmoniously together, enhancing our dining experience greatly.
Additionally, the coleslaw and potato salad were very delicious. I don't normally care much for sides, but these were surprisingly delightful and complemented the main dishes perfectly.
If you're seeking the quintessential Maine lobster experience with a personal touch, Footbridge Lobster is an absolute must-visit. Whether it's a quiet day or a bustling one, this charming lobster shack is sure to impress with its superb offerings and...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with this place today. We initially went there and were told to return in 30 mins because they didnât have any lobster. So we returned after walking Marginal Way and looking forward to eating. We ordered 2 lobster rolls, 1 fried scalloped roll, and sweet potato fries. The lobster rolls were $40 each. I thought lobster was cheaper up here, but itâs definitely not anymore. We were the first to order but we got our order last. The group who ordered after us had like 6 folks and got their food way faster than us. The last person to order before they closed got hers before we did. Anyway, the bread rolls were disgusting. My mom said it tasted like laundry soap (she had the scalloped roll). I couldnât figure out the taste of mine, I got the lobster roll, and was it was gross. We couldnât eat the rolls. The scallops were good but my lobster did not taste good. It was tough and had had no flavor. I couldnât even finish my lobster. My mom ended up eating it because I paid for it. Iâve eaten a ton of lobster roll in the past and have been to New England many times and grocery store lobster roll tasted better than this. It had a lot of meat but I cannot recommend this place and will not return. I cannot believe we spend over $130 on this crap. The shop had already closed by the time we were eating our food. The only thing that was delicious was the sweet potato fries with the maple syrup dip. I was really let down with this place because it had so many great reviews online and recommended by so many people on travel blogs. I canât believe I spent all this money for the worst lobster roll in my life. Will def not be returning and recommending. Also, the front desk girl could have been a...
