We arranged to have a family function at the Oarweed on a Sunday.  Through several emails between us and the manager it was decided that we should get there at 1100.  A few family members were running late, not understanding the severity of the traffic in that area.  We endured several demeaning statements from the manager and staff about the tardiness.  We finally ordered our meals at closer to 1200.  When they did finally arrive, everyone was very sorely disappointed, the fish sandwiches and veggy burgers were obviously just frozen pattys microwaved and thrown on a cheap hamburger bun, a bag of potato chips and a packet of either Ketchup or tartar sauce in the tray.  Not what I was expecting from an $18 fish sandwich.  We expected a decent quality meal in a nice location, we got a slapped together meal.  The entire time we were there at least ½ of the tables in the restaurant were unoccupied.  As we prepared to leave we were challenged by the manager because he felt that a $60 on a $320 bill was not enough because we were there for 2½ hours, hours that the restaurant was NOT EVER more that 50% full, we were not keeping anyone else from coming in.... In my opinion the tip was MORE than they actually deserved.  It was my intention to tip individual serving staff in cash, but the overly aggresive "manager" managed to shame one of my party into a $100 tip so I withdrew my $60.   ONLY up side is the location. I will NEVER set foot in the place again, it is a complete disappointment, avoid at at costs unless you like overpaying for questionable food sloppily presented.  Go to a take out restaurant nearby and walk the Marginal Way, that's where the...

Me and my family of 3 visited Oarweed for lunch with high expectations based on other positive reviews and left still hungry and feeling like I’d wasted $115 on a horrible meal.

The good: The atmosphere and incredible view of the seaside was top notch and very peaceful when sitting outside. The coleslaw was fantastic and the crab salad was also tasty and although slightly basic (with just some chopped up romaine lettuce and tasty dressing) got the job done at a more reasonable price.

The bad: We received horrendous service from an extremely inexperienced waiter who did not know what the ingredients included and how the food was prepared in most, if not all of the dishes in the menu. Additionally, my husband ordered the lobster roll which came with a 30 cent hot dog roll and some lobster in the middle (tasty and local, but only about 4 total large bites of fish) that came with a large pickle and a bag of Lays Chips. For 30 dollars it was not worth bad quality and left my husband hungry after the meal. My son decided to order the crab melt, which includes some local crab on a piece of traditional white bread and a large slice of unmelted white cheddar cheese. This was accompanied by yet another bag of brand Lays Chips and a slice of a large pickle. The crab itself was delicious but a boring meal and not filling enough for my son who ordered their seafood chowder to fill him up. The chowder was pretty good and had good bits of seafood but compensated with too many potatoes and a tasty rich sauce.

Overall: A tourist trap meant to hook you for the view and leave you with mediocre (at best) food and bad service as well. Would...

DO NOT EAT HERE! This is a five star location with beautiful views but not even a one star for the food. Total tourist trap. I am willing to bet all of the five star reviews are from Mainers that do not know what flavored food should taste like.

Bland is not even the word for how the food here tastes. It isn't even fresh as my wife's salad had that brown liquid that lettuce has when its gone bad. The steak on the salad looked and tasted like potted meat. Void of any flavor whatsoever. I am not even sure they seasoned it.

My "local shrimp" was not local at all. It looked and tasted like salad shrimp from the frozen section of a grocery store. Again, void of any flavor whatsoever regardless of the description on the menu. The potato skins, tasted like potatoes from yesterday left out on the counter waiting to be used today.

Zero butter, some cheap bacon bits with a thin slice of white american cheese. I do believe these were the worst potato skins I have ever tasted. I would have been happier buying them from the grocery store in a box and just heating them up.

My wife took one bite of the salad. I took a few bites of the shrimp sandwich but stopped because it was so nasty and I was scared I would get sick. Regardless nothing was taken off the bill of course. Words can not describe how pathetic...

Diner on Sunday before labor Day was a bad decision. This place was mediocre cafeteria food, at a premium price. Got a lobster roll in a paper basket with a bag of cape cod chips. Lobster was small diced pieces, plain and cold no chunks of tail or claws, and did I mention premium price$$$. It was pretty small, less than half a dinner knife length. My wife got a tuna salad on a dinner salad. The tuna salad was just plain tuna with no noticable chopped onion or celery or anything else, just opened a can of tuna. Wait service was very slow. We got seated with menus and waited 10 min for the waitress. She brought water and took our order. Didn't see her again for more than 10 min. Had to ask another staff for a straw. She brought our meal and we didn't see her again. Had to flag her down 20 min later to pay the bill. The maitre D was acting frustrated with the number of large parties coming in, but when someone he knew came in he was all smiles handshakes and right this way please. The whole area was bustling with people trying to get the upper hand. Way overcrowded for my liking, probably not likely to come back any time soon.

Best part of Oarweed was their convenient free parking. First time there, and most likely our last. Our waitress was Crabby!. The view was nice, but right next to the sidewalk for Marginal Way. Their menu was limited. My husband and I got sides and the crab cakes. While eating the cakes I saw the “crabmeat” that definitely look like imitation crab or surimi. I asked our waitress if it was real crab, (living near Maine and Florida) I know what real crab looks like, and this was NOT real crab. When I asked the waitress if this was real or imitation? She said I assume it’s real, I asked if she could please ask the kitchen, (as it sometimes turns my stomach) she was pissed, but came back and said she asked the owner and its real crab. Regardless I highly doubt it. Not impressed, won’t be back. Jackie Too’s ! Has a great view and better menu, also Barnicle Billys has parking and a fabulous bay view. Plus hopefully a nice server!! Good thing my husband tipped cuz she wouldn’t have gotten that good tip from me! It’s simple to be pleasant as a waitress, i waitressed for years, was always very attentive and kind.

I've eaten at Oarweed three times over the last year and each has been somewhere between fantastic and okay, with varying levels of service and quality of food. Sometimes you have to wait upward of an hour for a table, sometimes you can be seated immediately. The whole experience is a little hit or miss. Biggest draw here is the view; you're sitting right on the water in Perkins Cove with an absolutely stellar backdrop to enjoy while you eat. Time your meal here over sunset and you're in for a treat. Food here can be hit or miss. Things I've eaten include: - Seafood chowder (4/5) - Shrimp cocktail (3.5/5) - Crab dip (6/5, but they took it off the menu. According to our server, the owner was too cheap to keep buying the crab. BRING BACK THE CRAB DIP!!) - Artichoke and spinach dip, which replaced the crab dip (3/5) - Seafood trio (4/5) - Crab cakes (3.5/5) - Blueberry beer (5/5) Definitely try your luck here, if for nothing else than the picturesque setting!
