Itās not what it used to be. Iāve been coming to Jolly Pirates for as long as I can remember since being a little boy, so thatās probably over 15-20yrs. The staff has always been friendly and helpful up until the last two times I went there. I cannot speak for the entire staff being 24hrs, but the two girls (one dark hair and glasses, and the other young lightskin lasy) in the morning have had a piss poor attitude when it comes to customers coming in and ordering food. But hey, everyone has bad days.
The second time recently coming the one with glasses seemed to have better spirits. But I came in waiting for someone to take my order at the register and the one lightskin lady just sort of mopped up from around the back not acknowledging or stating she was there to help me (the one with glasses said sheād be right back to help me) before making some rude smug look at me, and you know whatever I brushed it off. So I wanted a dozen and I ordered you know some of the best donuts and had about four left to fill. And so I just said to put in just whatever it doesnāt matter, whatever she thinks good or sees to be best sellers (which has always been done, kindly and no hassle the 15yrs+ Iāve been coming there with past employees). This lady gives out the most dramatic eyeroll and sigh like I was asking her to run a 5k marathon and mutters āidk dude what do you likeā and I just said āoh it doesnāt matter (chuckle) you guys have done it for me for years Iām sorryā and she again sighs louder and rude like a 12yr old does when a mom says āno, go clean your room.ā Iām not sure why this was such a big deal, and to act in a disrespectful manner or like itās a burden asking you to pick out some mixed batch donuts at a DONUT shop. I like supporting little places like these, as genuinely they have a nice homey, cozy, vibe to them. And youād figure Jolly would be a giveaway for the vibe to spread. Iām not sure whatās going on but these girls need a pep talk or something because their turning āJolly Pirate Donutā into āMopey...

Got there on a Sunday afternoon around 1 pm. Was greeted by a cute blonde that acted like she would self destruct if she smiled. There was hardly anything left to choose from. I was only purchasing one dozen. I asked if there were any apple fritters and she replied with a quick hard "no". I then asked of they would be putting anymore donuts out and again she replied with a quick hard "no". I then asked her if it had been a long day and she said she had been there since 6 am. I made a comment that I guess I should beat the morning church rush to get the good donuts and she just stood there like make your selection and just move on. I was very disappointed in the service. I wanted to add the pumpkin creamed filled donuts to my purchase, that she not so kindly, reminded me that they were not part of the dozen, but I was afraid of upsetting her, and she was getting busy. I overheard the other family say they wanted a dozen...I thought good luck, I just took the good ones.
Anyways, what donuts I did get, were very good. Service,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am a little confused on how THIS is the only place that serves LEMON FILLED donuts yet has been sold out for almost 3 WEEKSā¦are we NOT doing inventory correctly to see there is a high demand for lemon filled and you only order the ānormal restockā amount instead of being sure you order extra for lemon filled? WHO is doing the inventory here? Iāve been in to ask and have walked out because that is the only donut my family members like but I guess I canāt surprise them since you never have them in stock? How are you out of lemon filled donuts for THREE WEEKS?!?! Like Iām sorry Jolly Pirate Donuts but are YOU not aware youāre the ONLY ONES selling these? Right or wrong??? No other doughnut place sells them so WHY would you not order extra??? Hellooā¦.thereās no competition but thereās also NONE in stock of these doughnuts at Jolly Pirate in Newark. Put 2+2...
