Comic Shop Plus is one of the places I hold very close to my heart. Whenever I think of Newark Ohio, the first thing that comes to my mind is back when I was kid, and being a regular customer at this place. Summer bike rides down the railroad tracks from McMillan Woods to the comic shop in the mid to late 1990s. Life couldn't get any better. Twice a week I found myself going to Pokemon league, get my ass kicked in a game, and then cheer myself up by buying as many comics as I could with my ten dollar a week allowance.
Unfortunately I don't live in the area anymore, but every few months I make the trip and show support to my absolute favorite comic shop in the world, and every time I walk in the door I get the same feeling I got when I was ten years old walking in for game night, or new comic book day.
These guys have an amazing selection in singles and trades. They also have an even more amazing selection of tabletop gaming gear. Warhammer, 40k, MTG, D&D, Pathfinder, and I'm not sure they have it anymore, but one I loved as a kid, the most badass miniature game to ever hit the table . . . BLOOD BOWL!!!
I've known the guy running the place (Jeremy) since I was a kid, (we shared the same bowl cut) and I can honestly say to anyone who walks into that door you are in the best hands whenever he is behind the counter. I watched this dude go from just another kid playing 40k in the back by the iguana case (Her name was Baby), to the head honcho, and it brings the biggest smile to face every time I see him.
To me this place is truly a staple to the community. So forget about the big basket, the Courthouse Christmas lights, or the buxton inn. If you're in the central Ohio area, go grab your dice, your notebook filled with back issues you've been needing to buy, and get your ass to Comic...
Read moreThis place has been my go-to comic shop for years. They have a vast array of comic books both new and old that you could spend hours browsing, and I have. They even offer subscription services so that you never miss out on a new issue of your favorite comic series.
The staff and owner are friendly and knowledgeable. First and foremost, they're fans themselves. They're up to date on the goings-on of the comic universes. They can even give you a heads-up on comics coming out or provide recommendations based on your preferences. All you have to do is ask!
And don't forget game nights! Feel free to join them for Friday night Magic tournaments, or sit down and play a game of Pokémon, or even HeroClix. If you play it, chances are they've got a night for it. They also participate in Free Comic Book Day the first Saturday in May every year!
From comics, to card games like Pokémon and Magic the Gathering, to tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Catan, this place has everything you're looking for and more.
Whether you're trying to get back into comics or are just starting out, or even just in the mood for a wave of nostalgia, if you're ever in the neighborhood, feel free to stop in and check them out. In my opinion, nobody does what they do better. I'm a...
Read moreIt seems a bit odd for me to leave a review as I was the owner for 30 years but I have to voice my appreciation for what the new owner Jeremy has done since purchasing the store. He has moved it to a better location and improved the operation. Through his love of the customers and industry Jeremy has saved the home for new and old customers for years to come. I could not be prouder of the work they have done with continuing the legacy of a place that everyone is welcome and they deal fairly and ethically with all customers.
I suggest you stop in and meet the amazing staff and see why an old owner could not be...
