Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Okeechobee

We visit GC regularly in various cities throughout Florida. We tend to visit the Okeechobee location when we're over that way visiting family. It seems dated and kinda dingy but it's popular so it can't be all that bad.

I'm usually a creature of habit but this time I ventured out of my comfort zone and put some tuna salad on the plate with my dinner salad and cottage cheese.

About 1/4 of the way into my salad at are the cottage cheese and went to take a bite of the tuna salad when a fly literally crawled out of the tuna salad, covered in mayonnaise and started waking around my plate.

We were seated by the server station so I promptly handed the plate over to one of the servers along with my unwelcomed guest who apparently couldn't fly because it was drenched in mayo and tuna juice.

She was hard to understand but I'm pretty sure she apologized and briskly went over to the salad bar and dumped the rest of the bowl of tuna salad into the trash. High five for that.

I all but lost my appetite after that and somewhat expected a visit from a manager of not a refund for my dinner. I got nothing but a queasy feeling in my stomach.

Aside from the fly incident, it was business as usual at GC. I welcome their traditions and tried and true recipes but they need to start changing it up because it's getting to be meh and blah. At this point, I'd take an Asian...

I went to eat lunch today and I couldn't believe what I saw in broad daylight! It was German cockroaches and I'm not talking about one but several! They were all over the counter and wall where the macaroni and cheese was.😫😖 Now if there are a few running around beside the food in daylight can you imagine how many are in the back in the pantry etc and when the lights go out? It would be like your worst fear or at least mine! A couple of employees saw them and heard me freaking out because I am not afraid of many things at all except for cockroaches and I will tear a wall or door down to get away from one! You can imagine how much I was panicking and my son who has a weak stomach was about to barf thinking how many pieces of roaches he ate! Another gross thing was what looked like blood smeared on the wall. It has been a couple of years since I have been to this Golden Corral and unless they tent the building and change management I won't be coming back. As long as they have the same management I don't see the use of going back here because they apparently don't mind serving cockroaches to their customers! And yes I will contact the health department and whoever else that this problem should be reported to! Too bad about this restaurant because they have pretty darn good...

There is always plenty of seating, we needed more and they were happy to put 2 tables together for us. The food was good and the waiters and waitresses are there on the spot if you need more beverages or dinner rolls. I would recommend this place for every casual dining event. I have never had a bad experience at Golden Coral and when there are several of us it's great because they have such a selection there is something for everyone. I especially enjoy the salad bar, I'm pretty much vegan and can find so much in the way of vegetables, everything from mashed potatoes to fried okra and then there is the crab salad, potato salad different cheeses and several dressings to add to your chopped eggs, raw broccoli and cauliflower, it's all there. The deserts are fantastic too. You never leave Golden Coral hungry, feeling like you didn't get your money's worth or your attention from the very courteous staff. I recommend it for lunches, and especially casual dinners with friends. We have always enjoyed ourselves and left with a good happy feeling. Try it,...
